Disgusted at Penalties

I have been re-reading through my January Gazette of Dogs Victoria and decided to pay a little more attention to the penalties handed out.

I was absolutely disgusted at the lack of severity of some of the fines...

ie: Code breech 20.1.2.4 mated a bitch before 12 months of age.... $40 and reprimand!!! :angry:

I have also found that there is no consistency within the Disciplianry Committee.
4 similar breaches (bred bitch 3 times in 18 months) ;
person #1 reprimand.
person #2 $500 fine 6 month suspension of membership.
person #3 Suspension of membership for 5 years.
person #4 $300 fine and reprimand.

What kind of messages are being sent out to breeders! Where are the consistancies? 5 years for one person and a reprimand for another? Breeders cannot say they were unaware of the regulations, its right there in B&W and when you join Dogs Victoria you are given the COE and agree to abide by it.

Punishment should be consistant and concise.

What kind of penalties do the governing bodies in the US and Canada have for similar breaches?

You are right, it doesn't seem like much of a punishment BUT it is a LOT more than AKC would do over here. Sorry to say that if you ask AKC for paperwork for a litter born to two six month olds they would be happy to collect your money and send it right out. Just sad !

it seems mild, but here there are no penalties at all for the above infractions. only if the person is a member of a code of ethics club, but they would just get kicked out as the more severe penalty.
