The Frontier "L" kids are here

The L kids are here

Born this am we have 7 total- 5 girls and 2 boys. The little one is 9 oz and the rest 12-15 oz all are noisy and vigorous! No white, no double marks and no rear dew claws

Bea is still sleepy but the kids are active

We will be keeping a girl

Both parents (in my signature file) have all 4 health tests done Bill OFA: Display OFA Records and Bea OFA: Display OFA Records and this is Bea's second and last litter.

Congrats!!
Now I'm going to ask a really rookie question. Do you breed out the rear dew claws? I didn't know that could be done....?

Re: The Frontier "L" kids are here

rear dewclaws are a simple recessive. I have not had a litter with rear dewclaws since my F litter. I also have not used dogs for breeding since then that had rear dews as pups.

However that could change someday because not all stud dog owners know if the dog had them and thus don't know if he carries them
It's a minor beauty thing but I hate removing them so I have tried to not have to. So far so good

Congratulations. Nothing cuter than a rottie pup. Post some pics so we can all be jealous.

Re: The Frontier "L" kids are here

I always thought rotts had rear dew claws. All of mine had them at birth but were removed according to the standard. Just never thought twice about a rott NOT having them at birth. A few years ago I witnessed a whelping and noticed that all of the puppies did NOT have rear dews. The breeder thought it was odd that rotts have rear dews because all of her stock never had rear dews.
Now I know it is a simple resessive. Something to think about.

Congratulations on the new puppies. I hope that they are everything that you hope they to be.

Our latest litter that is three weeks old this week did not have any rear dew claws either, we had 7 in the litter.

Re: The Frontier "L" kids are here

Annie wants to be with them. I'm actually thinking about holding them for her to clean since this is the task that Bea thinks is below her social status I am quite sure Annie would be thrilled. (notice I said HOLD for her. She's a clumsy moose)

We actually wondered if Annie would make milk because she herself was in heat not long ago (and was not bred)

Re: The Frontier "L" kids are here

Why is your girl shaved? Was that for an ultra-sound?
