Tracing back the lines

Hi everyone,

Was just wondering how far back you can trace your dogs blood lines and how do you go about it.

On her papers i have the Dam and Sir, their parents and their parents. (one of which is imported from the US).

I often read about german blood lines and so on. How do i know what blood line she is from? US, German, Australian?

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Tracing back the lines

Pawvillage is probably the most well known site to look back through the pedigrees of dogs. If you go to pawvillage and type in the sire or dams name you will be often to have a look back through many generations. In the end as yuou bought your pup from an Australian Breeder the dog is Australian but in the end they all go back to German and a good dog is a good dog no matter where it is born. The people who draw a difference between German/American/UK/Australian usually are trying to pump up what in the end is very small reginal differences in the breed.

As you are in Aust feel free to put the sire and dams name here and I will see what I know regarding them.

Mick.

On pawvillage, you can trace back to just about the beginning of time.... I just went back to 1906 (with photos, no less) on one of my dogs, and back to 1919 (also with photos) on the other. There is a wealth of information there and it's really fascinating to trace your dog's lineage (and easy to get lost in history, too!)

There's a Williemstadt Hannibal on Pawvillage - (two n's instead of one), born 2005.

If you do a search on Pawvillage using just Williemstadt, there are a few dogs that come up. You may be able to fill in some blanks in the database with your pedigree info.....please enter your dog there!

Opersage Ayre is also the Great Great Grand Sire on Hannibal's side.

Re: Tracing back the lines

Ok on the whole Willemstadt is one of the oldest Rottweiler breeding Kennels in the country and Margie has produced some of the most well known dog we have seen both from show as well as some very strong working stock. Hannibal is one of Margie's well known studs at the moment going back to Bosko who is a dog I liked a lot and one of the reasons I bought the litter sister to him from the repeat mating. Basko is a very strong dog and I feel is one of the best representatives of his sire I have seen. He is a very impressive dog. On his Dams side he goes back to the Blickschaf Kennel again a kennel that has been around for a fiar amount of time and who produced Ashke who has been the most successful show dog in this country for quite some time and would be the most used non-import stud dog that I can remember.

Sorry I do not know Tarla persoanlly so can't tell you much there but if you can give me a few generations back I may be able to give you more.

Mick.

Re: Tracing back the lines

Thanks Mick,

Marg is a lovely woman and very helpful! We knew the moment we drove into her driveway that she was a great breeder, her setup is fantastic. Breeders can only aspire to have a setup like hers. Its only a shame she is a 3 hour drive from our place.

The reason i was asking was because i wanted to trace back the pedigree as far as possible as see how old the lines were *smiles* just my curiosity.

Like Moondog said, Tahla's lineage and Hanniba's lineage both go through Opersage Ayre. Both are Great Grand Sire's to my Jett.

One Jett's Dam's side:

Weiiemstadr Tahhla, (Sire: Willemstadt Rick [his sire is Opersage Ayre, Dam Westholz Call Me Satchi], Dam: Willemstadt Helga [her Sire: Ch Valdekreiger Kreigs Hund, Dam: Willemstadt Taega)

Your help is much appreciated.

Trina
