Re: litters

I don't know about CKC, but you can purchase a Progeny Report from AKC. This gives you all of the litters a dog has sired, or a bitch has registered.

When you called CKC did you ask if something like that was available for purchase from them? Because AKC won't give you that info over the phone..........you have to BUY it.

You could also try e-mailing the Rottweiler Club of Canada and see if anyone is familiar with the dog or the breeder.
Are you worried that the dog has been bred too many times? You could also look up the OFA website and see how many of the puppies have their hips, elbows, etc. cleared.
What is the dogs registered name?
Are you looking at a breeder in Quebec? This is the puppy mill capitol of Canada! Please beware

Re: litters

Yes in Qc, the name is Kraftig rottweiler. The owner is on the board of the rottweiler club of Canada. Yes, I did verify the OFA website and some of her dogs are there. All of her dogs seem to be registered for hips,elbows,etc.cleared. I even check on PawVillage and they're there too. Yes, I'm worried that the dogs had been bred too many times.

Cool Re: litters

I've only heard good things about this breeder, I would not worry too much.
As far as over breeding the dog...you have to take many things into consideration...how many pups did the dam have in each litter. If she only had very tiny litters or only a singleton...breeders will breed the bitch more often.
If she only had a pup or two...the bitch bounces back very quickly...it's the large litters that can be harder on them.

Many breeders breed once a year for two or 3 years...or even a year or two longer if the litters were small...and then retire the bitch at the age of 5 or 6.
It's often recommended to breed bitches more frequently...and then retire them, because going through heats is so hard on their reproductive system.

I guess it depends on the breeder and the health of their bitch.

Re: litters

I have met her personally. She is the greatest.
Spoke to her every show I have been to, and her dogs have the best temps. Really good looking to. I have also met a puppy owner from them at the show, and they are extremely pleased with him ( the puppy). Sylvie and her husband helped the puppy owner at the show, being it was there first time.
They stayed at the same hotel as I did, so I was able to see alot, and really impressed by everything I saw.

Re: litters

I've met Sylvie as well at the Calgary Sieger show....great lady.....beautiful dogs, very committed to health testing and is a COE breeder!!

She previously did dock, however with her next litter will be breeding to the FCI standard and not docking as they are planning to show in Europe if possible. Just a heads up in the event that that may be an issue for you, but I would not hesitate in recommending her as a breeder!!

This will be her girl "Alpha's" 3rd litter.....first was a singleton, 2nd was a repeat (those pups are now 3 years old,) and this is her 3rd litter with Alpha...not an extraordinary number of litters with one bitch in my opinion!!

Re: litters

I reserved a puppy with her and I can't wait to have it. Talking to Sylvie, seemed to be a very nice person. Thank you for all the information.

Re: litters

Anton writes: "I don't know about CKC, but you can purchase a Progeny Report from AKC. This gives you all of the litters a dog has sired, or a bitch has registered."

Correction to above information: AKC Progeny Reports will only list dogs/bitches that have earned an AKC title out of a selected sire or dam. It does not list all dogs or litters sired or whelped by a specific sire/dam. In other words, if there were no AKC titled dogs in a litter, dogs from that litter will not be listed.

Quote from AKC website:
"A progeny report lists all offspring of the selected sire or dam that have earned an AKC title, such as Champion (Ch) or Companion Dog (CD). This report does not list offspring that have not earned an AKC sanctioned title. Click here for a list of titles. If you select the option to include the sire(s)/dam(s), your report will list both parents. We do not offer a report that lists dogs that have not earned a title."

This dog will be a home dog. I will be teaching him all kind of stuff. I really love rottweilers. I had a golden retriever for 17 years, just put him to sleep because he was sick and had trouble to walk. He followed me everywhere I went, he loved going to the camp. As I am a disable person, I have all the time to spend with a dog and teach him things. As they say, a dog is men best friend. I'm getting a rottweiler from Kraftig rottweilers because rottweilers around here are produced by anybody and most of the people don't know what they're doing. I wanted a registered puppy of pure breed. Ricky

Re: litters

Just remember that this is not a Golden Retriever...this is a working breed, that is most happy with some sort of job to do.

Make sure you get enrolled into obedience classes ..starting with Puppy Kindergarten and keep on taking classes for the next couple of years. This is a requirement of the breed...even if you've gone to training classes years ago, or trained your own dog.

Rottie puppies needed to be socialized early...and need firm, fair leadership. They have attitude...and will often try to run the show if you let them.

Start looking for obedience trainers now...so you have everything lined up when puppy come home.

Let us know when you get the pup.
