Re: Birth Announcement

This morning the puppies had a visit to their vet to have first vaccines and their microchip implants. I knew the puppies were getting big - you don't realize how big until they get on the scale. Our smallest puppy - "Mighty Whitey" weighed 11#. And the largest, "Big Boy" was 14#. They are only 7 weeks old. I keep hearing Cartman saying "I'm not fat, I'm big boned!" and I hope it's a true. <laugh>
So this afternoon we went to the eye doctor so the puppies could have their first CERF exams. They were so brave! And naturally everyone in the lobby just had to smell some puppy breath and get kisses.
I had a great day and while the puppies napped on the way home - they are tearing around again. Oh to be young again.
I just posted a picture of "Orange Blossom" to my photo album thing. She hasn't quite caught on to the show stack - I need to use better bait. :-)

Re: Birth Announcement

What are you looking for, or better yet, NOT looking for doing the CERF exam so early? I know some breeds like collies, it is important to do eye exams before 8 weeks to check for CEA. I thought the eye problems in rotts was juvie cataracts that usually show up between 18-36 months of age.

Re: Birth Announcement

Hey there Francis! It is just how I was taught - have their eye exams and cardiac exams prior to going into new homes. I think it has stuck with me because I had aquaintances several years ago that had "show" puppies diagnosed with problems at an early age. Obviously neither test is valid until they are 12 months of age. Also you are right - I work with several people who have border collies. Working in a specialty hospital I have access to specialists and I like to take advantage of it! <grin> I just wish the professional discounts were bigger!!! hehe

Holy Cow! Were you wearing your catcher's mitt? LOL.

Re: Birth Announcement

Elisabeth, part of it was terrifying. Lexie was very enthusiastic and had the cord chewed off one puppy before I could even blink. The cord was so short I had trouble getting it tied and there was a lot of blood. Working in an ER... well, it even made me queasy.<br>
Eight weeks later I am celebrating their beauty and charming personalities. I am in awe over them and this week they start heading off for their new homes so I am sad too. Blossom (Orange) and Tilly (Miss Teal) will be staying with our family-network.<br>
I'll go post a few pics of the rest of the puppies now. They are so fast that my camera has trouble keeping up and I end up deleting several blurry pics for every one keeper. hahaha!

Re: Birth Announcement

So How is Miss Scarlett doing? She is just the cutest puppy. Did she go to pet or show home? I hope the litter all very happy

Re: Birth Announcement

Isn't she something? This IS a very happy litter and they bring me much joy. We're hoping that Scarlett will visit the show ring but her main function in life is to be a cherished pet.
