What shows have they been entered into? What titles have they won? What health clearances do they and the dogs in the background have? Quote:

With three solid suggestions: 1. Stop putting your immature, unproven, untitled dogs together and pray to God your juvenile bitch isn't pregnant. 2. Start reading thru the postings here in Breeding to find out what real breeders do. 3. Read thru the postings in Rescue to find out what BYBs do. |

| Re: first time breeder! Most breeders don't mate their bitches until the age of two years plus. Prior to any mating at the very least, it is sensible to obtain hip and elbow scores on the Sire & Dam, and health checks such as heart/ eye etc - two wrongs never make a right! Do you have the history of the generations behind them HD/ED & health screens, ensuring the match is correct = forward planning. I would seek local advise asap, multiple matings are not advised and can cause serious complications later in the pregnancy and birth. Get the ' Book of the bitch ' and read it fast. It gives a vast amount of imformation needed to produce a litter of puppies. I would advise you go see your vet asap they will also be able to give advise on scans, nutrition and care for the Dam and pups thereafter. But more than anything find some one local to you with experience of rearing puppies. without the information you could loose Dam and pups. |

| Please spay your bitch, and neuter your male...then read all of the stickies in the breeding thread. We don't need anyone breeding their "nice dogs". ![]() Shelters and rescues are full of "nice dogs". ![]() Gina

| Re: first time breeder! Sorry just got to add: How many days into the season is your bitch? There may still be time for a visit to the vets for his advise on a pregnancy, at this time, and measures in place to maybe prevent this one, that do not effect the planning of a mating in the future. PLEASE think about what you are about to do. With the best planning in the world, even for experienced breeders of many years nothing is ever guaranteed in producing a litter. With no knowledge at all, your gonna struggle. To answer your question duration of pregnancy is approx 62 days, however with multi matings the date will remain unknown. Also do you work? My last litter took up 2 months caring for her during her pegnancy - and requires correct nutritions, exercise, and signs to look for if problems should arise. The experience of knowing what to do and when should the birth come into complications. Then out of the 10 plus weeks of rearing, includes communicating with prospective new owners to determin if they are good enough and have enough knowledge to take on one of my puppies. Performing Home checks on them, and alot of having to say NO to people I don't find suitable. Plus the endless nights of staying up with Dam and pups to ensure she doesnt lay on them. Preventing mastitis, bottle feeding, it's all endless. Temperament testing the puppies, ENS, planning when vaccinate micro chip and how to get anything from a couple to 15 puppies to the vets! Getting Dam back into shape after puppies to lead a normal life again. My litters take 6 months of my life in care, a life time thereafter in support to their new owners, and years finding a suitable stud dog. I don't wish to pop your bubble, but please consider your options and make them for the right reasons. To breed is to better the breed. |

| Re: first time breeder! Read this, it may help you understand why this has no favorable responses. http://www.rottweiler.net/forums/bre...nice-dogs.html Please take your bitch to the vet and have her spayed. Then take your dog and have him neutered. After that, ask to volunteer with a rescue group or your local shelter. They have their hands full of BYB's awesome specimens off-springs! They could use your help.

| Re: first time breeder! 15 months at time of mating is really too young for a female to conceive although i know many people who mate that this age, she will be less that 1& half years old when she gives birth. i would skip this heat and breed the next heat where she will be fully mature. Dont worry about show titles, but make sure her hips & elbows are good. This makes it easier for you as you are in the US. I dont believe breeding good title dogs will result in a quality puppy, you need to do your homework on there lineage and how who complements who down the pedigree. |

| Re: first time breeder! This bitch is far too young to be mated. I suggest you take your bitch to the vet and have her spayed immediately. Have the boy neutered. There are far too many puppies being bred by people with 'nice dogs'. There are far too many Rottweilers being killed in pounds because there are no homes for them. You need to know that no educated Rottweiler owner will buy your unpapered pups. The people who educate themselves about the breed buy only from ethical registered breeders, they don't buy from back yard breeders. Many back yard breeders end up by surrendering the litter to a rescue group. This is not a breed where the pups should be sold to the first person who offers you the money. It takes experience and knowledge to be able to choose an educated, committed owner for your pups and if you had the required knowledge you would not have considered breeding these dogs in the first place. The ethical and intelligent breeding of dogs is a science and is not for the uneducated. If you knew what ethical breeding was about you would never have mated your girl at such a young age. You would have had both dogs go through the required health tests and have certification to prove they are good breeding prospects. |

![]() Without show titles, or sieger titles or working titles how do you know that your dog/bitch is within standard and is a suitable specimen to be considered as a breeding prospect in the slightest. Yes absolutely do hip/elbow/heart and eye testing but the whole idea of entering your dog in a dog show/sieger show is to compare your dog with the competition and getting the opinion of a judge on that date. To OP: Your girl is a baby and you shouldn't even be considering breeding her at this age. You are risking her health and the health of the unborn puppies that she may be too immature to carry to term. For the health of your bitch I would take her the vet immediately to be spayed or perhaps get vet's advice as to the safety of drugs that can prevent pregnancy.Do your research and health testing, enter some shows, get some education on the breed before embarking down the path of a "breeder". I pray for your girl's sake that she was too immature to conceive at her young age!!!Heather Peters BIS/MBOSS/V-1 '06CSS'YS A/C Ch EternalFire's A Ragin Hotsauce BIS Can Ch EternalFire's A Mystery Solved Onyxgold's Explosive Blast (Youngster) Onyxgold's Wicked Hot'N Spicy (Baby) |

| Re: first time breeder! Poor baby girl. How could you? she is way too young for a litter. She is still very much a puppy. Rotties are not done growning and maturing until 2+ years. You need to keep them apart and hope your girl did not conceive. She is much too young for the responsibility of puppies. Take her and spay her. Go to shows and see what a "real" Rottie looks like. I so hope you rethink this for the sake of your girl, and not your wallet. |

| Re: first time breeder! Oh wonderful, another BYB in the making. Did you even know that your dogs need to be health tested for hips/elbows/eyes and hearts at 24 months!??! Meaning, your 15 month old girl is no way ready to breed. Have you had your male tested? I'm guessing no. Spay and neuter please so you don't add more unwanted, untested, puppies into this world. How do know neither of your dogs carry a recessive genetic trait for something? |

| Re: first time breeder! [quote=warriec;792560]i would skip this heat and breed the next heat where she will be fully mature.[quote] It's too late. Lunatic stated in his/her post that "they started mating a week ago." And considering the bitch is too young for OFA hip/elbow certifications, the puppy owners will be taking considerable risk taking any of these puppies. To Lunatic.............is the male OFA'd? If so, what are his clearances? What happens if you go to get your bitch OFA's AFTER she is 2, and she ends up dysplastic? How are you going to explain it to the puppy owners? And since you didn't say that the male was OFA'd, we can only assume that he also has no health clearances. ![]() I'm sorry for the puppies. ![]()
