I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

Everyone pretty much knows my uncle by now (not Valentines breeder) He is the guy who let his 9 month old bitch get bred and whelp a litter at 12 months. Now she got pregnant again (approx5 months after) and she is on her second litter at roughly 20 months.

This time she had 8 puppies and all are alive and well. This time he FORCED his oldest son to care for them everyday....*eyeroll*

But now my concern is for poor lil Shadow. She is in such a sorry state right now. She is almost emaciated and her teats touch the ground....poor girl *crying* I saw what they feed her, they feed her Purina Puppy Chow. They SAY they feed her 7 cups a day of it...and they could, being a low quality food with moslty grains and fillers, this COULD be the reason she is in such a poor state. She was in better condition last litter....but then most of her pups died and she only ended up nursing one puppy by 5 weeks. Now shes nursing/weaning 8 (I only counted 7 last time I was there, but they said 8...*ponders*) and they are 5 weeks old.

They said they checked her for worms...her poop wasn't wormy apparently....sheesh It seems I am more concerned for these dogs than the "pimp" is..BTW I call them pimps now because breeders breed for the betterment of the breed...pimps make their dogs have sex to make money...

Since they refuse to take her to a vet and they live outside in the cold....what can I tell him? Is it the food? Could it be worms?

BTW I am trying to help this poor girl, and I have to put the BYB thing aside no matter how hard it is. This girl has been through alot!!!

I am ready to make him an offer after he sells the puppies...would this be right? To prevent her from being sold to yet ano0ther pimp, to pump out puppies for the rest of her life!!!

Is it the right thing to do? Or should I just give up and turn a blind eye? Or should I report him for another inspection? Would it be worth it?

Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

I would report for another inspection. The more complaints that are filed, the more care this dog will get...also at some point..the uncle may just give up breeding his dogs, if he knows he is being watched.

Just because they cannot see any worms in her poop, does not mean that the poor dog does not have any. Most breeders worm their bitches before breeding and start worming the puppies also at about 3 weeks, and keep worming them.
If the poor dog is wormy, and also trying to keep warm while living outside...and nurse pups and being fed a poor quality food...there is no way that she can be in good shape.
If they go to a farm feed store, they should be able to get a wormer for roundworms for the dog, and if they start adding fatty meats to her dog food, some pork or ground beef or even leftover starches (potatoes, pasta, rice) it will help support her and the puppies.

This poor dog and the puppies need to be inside where it's warm.

Thats supposed to say "make an offer for her" meaning I am willing to buy her from him and spay her..................who knows, she might be mine after....unless I re-home her...I already have a female in the house.....so who knows.

I know you feel bad for her...but this idiot will probably keep a female pup from the litter (the kids will want one)....they will grow tired of it by summer...then the new pup will be chained up and probably bred with her sire. The whole problem will keep on going.

I would make a formal complaint to animal control...there must be some law that puppies must be inside at this time of year??? You could offer to take the mother dog if he cannot care for her....but don't start offering him money.

Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

Trust me he'll find every way to squeeze money out of her. He will not "give" her to anyone, not with knowing he could possibly sell her to someone else who would like her for breeding I'd rather pay money for her to bail her out of breeding and free the poor baby.

True that he might keep a female, but I doubt he would breed her to the sire...he'd probably just breed her to a different sire...maybe...who knows maybe my aunt will finally put her foot down.

Lets see they own:

1 small/ medium mixed breed dog with in breeding age
1 large breed puppy, breed unknown (looks like a husky lab mix) within breeding age
1 Pit Bull, he is within breeding age. he is not theirs, he belongs to my cousin, but she can't keep him in an apartment
2 Adult rottweilers
8 five week old puppies

all outdoors, all intact

Maybe the AC will finally do something about them....if they do they will probably just get rid of the medium breed dog and the mixed pup to even out the population...They are indeed one dog over the limit. The law states only 4 adult dogs can be kept (with the exception of puppies under 12 months old). The Pit Bull is 8 months old and the medium breed is about 12 months....the lab mix looks to be about 6 months or so.

Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

there isnt any law that says puppies must be kept inside like any animal as long as they have food/water/and some kind of shelter(and probably a barrel with straw would pass an inspection) and there isnt any law about breeding ages and im not sure but the akc if both dogs have paper would probably register this litter. as far as the puppy chow i wouldnt feed that to one of my pups but if given enough the food is really not that bad for lactating bitches, and evedently since you had him inspected before and is still operating he more than likely passed the inspection. i would just let it go and disown him from any family ties with you more than likely if you keep at it you will become the black sheep of the family and he will become the victem

Valentine, sooo sorry for another round with your uncle. Prior I did try to complain but didn't seem to get through to anyone up there. Seems the standards are so low that even those horrid conditions are ok. Complain, complain and then complain some more, even if you need to use friends, neighbors and or anyone else you come in contact with.

Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

It seems there is nothing you can do within the limits if the law.Common sense and the heart on the right place can prevent a lot of sh...In this case you can't count on the law to help,so you are powerless to do anything about that.Common sense(from the side of your family) seems to be nonexistant. If they have a heart (which I doubt) it sure is not filled with a spark of compassion for their animals.I can imagine how hard it must be for you to deal with this matter. But plain and simple:if you can't do anything on this situation, you can't.(or you got to go outside the boundaries of the law and then it becomes a litlle trickyI would't mind)In cases like these, the hopeless matters,Confucius once gave a good advice to his pupils. He said"if rape is inevitable, lay back and enjoy it.(Don't take this literally)He meant:try to make the best from a bad situation ,resign yourself to it.It useless to bang your head against the wall because you only keep the headache.

Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

Something I did with my neighbors cats that's probably illegal, but I actually stole them one day why they were at work and got them neutered.

They were outside cats and every freaking spring, I would end up with a little of kittens under my porch. I mentioned to my neighbors that I think their cats were out knocking up the strays and they just laughed. So I snatched them and snipped them myself. As far as I know, my neighbors are none the wiser and I haven't had a litter of kittens under my porch since.

Like I said, I'm not sure how illegal this is or if you could even do it with dogs. But I don't regret it a bit.

Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

Enlist the help of friends, have them make tons of calls. Maybe if they are bugged badly enough animal control up there will get tired of it and find something to take the dog and puppies away?
My Grammie always said the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
People like this make me sick. There is a condition that hits nursing moms caused from lack of calcium that can cause them to go into some sort of shock and die, I just can't remember what it's called. I am sure it is COLD in Canada, too cold for adult dogs and certainly too cold for babies to be out in the elements.
I am going to go against the group here and say offer him money for the dog.
You know that raising two females is not ideal, but if you have the time and patience and heart to keep them seperated, if need be, while rehoming her, good for you.
She deserves better.
I am so sorry you are banging your head against the wall, I would be too.

Thumbs up Re: I KNOW its bad BYB but this is URGENT!

Poor Shadow... you are trying to do the right thing. A person has to do the right thing so they can live with themselves, but the consequences can be harsh,,,. Definately go for the inspection and "over-limit" number of dogs.

Here in the US we have the ASPCA (Am. society prevent cruelty to animals)
ASPCA: Fight Animal Cruelty,
They have a LOT of resources about laws here, so maybe they can give you some info or connections about your area ??

Halfway tongue in cheek:
Depending on how well your family gets along, you could take out ads in the same paper that he advertises the pups in, "call this number before buying a rotti pup", "free dog toy if you call this number before buying a rottweiler pup" (free is always a magic word around here, laughing !!!)

good luck, I admire you and your efforts.

Hats off to you calin, sometimes a little activism legal or not goes a lot further
than a heck of a lot of words.
