We are very excited about this breeding. It will be a first for us. We expect beautiful working rottweilers in this litter.

Yes, this will be our first litter. Hubby is looking forward to building the whelping box. I am starting to make lists of everything that we will need. Will need to start subcriptions to the major newspapers too.

I am not sure if you were joking abou the newspaper thing...but I went to my local paper and got huge rolls of clean (no ink) newsprint for a $1 a roll. It was great becuase I just would pre-roll out large sheets and lay them down.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think it is a good idea to use newspapers because they are slick. I feel it would be best to use a material that the pups could get a purchase on and not slide around. I have seen whelping box liners for sale and have known breeders to use towels or some other material. Again, this is just my opinion and nothing more.

The glossy inserts might be, but newspapers themselves aren't.

Sounds exciting! Best wishes for a healthy, happy litter of smiling puppies. Gable is one of my very favorite dogs...he's a great guy!

Oh, and I agree with the previous poster. I don't like newspaper at all for raising puppies (the ink comes off, and it's really slippery and gross when it's wet)...towels/blankets are easier to deal with and nice for mom and pups (you can get piles of old towels from thrift shops, and there are often vendors at dog shows selling fake fur or fleece blankets in whelping box sizes).

Thank you all for your good wishes. Hubby and I are very excited about this new adventure. So much to do and to get ready for. It is a lot of fun to get ready for, but also a lot to think about and worry about. Hope for everything to work out, but still need to be prepared for when it doesn't. We feel these will be exceptional puppies (so we are biased) and want to have the best for them. I can't wait to pick the experienced breeders' minds on "How To" do everything.
