| Re: Sickening just sickening First of all Mrs. Wentling, I never used your name. You, yourself put it in your post along with your web address. If you had read the rules you would have seen that kennel names are not to be used. That is why I didn't use the word Kimbertal, didn't know we could. I asked for people to educate you because the people on this forum have such a passion for the breed. Like everyone else on this forum, I'm glad we can educate the unknowing buyer. |

| Re: Sickening just sickening TamieK: I wouldn't worry about this woman, for all she knows, 20 of your neighbors could be signing into your login name on here. LOL Anyhow, I hope to visit this kennel this week, if not, it won't be for another couple weeks until I can get out there. And the more that she keeps issuing her threats, the more she gets herself into hot water. |

| Dear Shelly, I know you feel picked on! Did you really think you would be free from criticism? You own over 50 Rottweilers. You breed below the standard the rest of us fight to maintain, protect, and promote. You are in every respect a commercial breeder. Yes your dogs are on concrete, yes they have shelter, yes they receiver routine vet care, yes your Company is routinely visited and yes you meet the bare minimum requirements for the State of PA so you are in fact a legal commercial operation. You breed without consideration of the very Breed’s Standard in which you deal. You are unable to provide bloodlines of quality, and are unable to provide the routine health clearances that the rest of us make available to every owner of every litter. Only one of your 20+ Adult dogs that we know of is registered in OFFA. My personal issue… You are in no way bettering the breed. I say “Shame on you.” Shame that you don’t realize your role as a breeder. Shame that you do not promote your breeding in dog sports, conformation, or any worthwhile activity except gross over population! Anyone doubts this… she has 15 puppies ADVERTISED for sale, from three litters, all whelped within two week of each other. I don’t know you. I have never seen your facility other then the pictures where trash is stacked in the yards, doors are off of the hinges, dogs behind fencing, and so few spots clean enough for the grotesquely large dogs you breed to lay down in the rooms with you. I applaud your daughter for telling the story your dogs could not. A picture is worth a thousand words. Pennsylvania Dog Laws are clearly posted, and for those of you who did not understand what she meant when she was bragging about being a Class 4 Kennel and soon to be a Class 5 let me quote the site. Pennsylvania Dog Laws Kennel Class IV: To keep or operate a private kennel, pet shop-kennel, research kennel, dealer kennel or breeding kennel for a cumulative total of 151 to 250 dogs of any age during a calendar year--$400 per year Kennel Class V: To keep or operate a private kennel, pet shop-kennel, research kennel, dealer kennel or breeding kennel for a cumulative total of 251 or more dogs of any age during a calendar year--$500 per year. On her behalf, she has informed us that she has an incredibly low mortality rate, her dogs are well fed, are visited for veterinary care. Her Kennel has made great improvements. Does this make this situation ideal, of course not and we all know that. We also know that these same situations are in each of our states. They are making a significant profit and are operating just as any other livestock operation would. Who can say if this is the sole source of their income, I can’t can you? But they are maintaining themselves and are legal in PA. As to whether they pass their inspections with “flying colors” I can guarantee, that is often never the case in these large operations. But nonetheless they do pass, and the individuals contacted, inform me that these are very friendly and affectionate dogs. Someone previously questioned as to where they were selling this quantity of dogs, was it to pet shops? NO, Pennsylvania requires USDA inspections for them to be licensed to sell to Retail operations. Mrs. Wentling you can correct me if I am wrong, but you currently do not have USDA licensing. Harrisburg, PA and the Dept of Agriculture are planning a website for the end of 2007 that will list all citations and violations of a Kennel for public inspection. This will aid fanciers and buyers alike to look at Kennels such as Mrs. Wentling’s and see the past citations (if any), what they were for, and the courts actions. They intend to make all of this information available to the public, as it is in fact public record after the hearings are complete. Even now any past hearings that have been held are a matter of public record, but difficult to come by, this site will be the missing link. This kennel is not alone; PA in many respects has been dubbed the “commercial breeding capital of the east”. You can visit the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement and look at the Annual Reports that are made to the PA General Assembly each year. You will be amazed at the numbers of LARGE Kennels just like this one. PDA: Publications & Annual Reports - Dog Law Just like your county and mine, funding/facilities are simply not there to remove large numbers of dogs. So often, with large kennels, the county is encouraged to work with the owners to bring the facilities up to meet with minimum state laws. This is why you will often see 4 dogs confiscated from an irresponsible owner, but a kennel of a greater number won’t be touched. We dealt with a very large illegal kennel in our area for over two years. I am well aware of the challenges these counties can face. Will she ever be a Code of Ethic Breeder, I doubt it Mrs. Wentling if you are curious what a COE Breeder is visit and read the second page as a local example of what Breed Responsible Owners follow… Membership The only thing you are able to do with this situation if it concerns you is monitor it. Visit the Dept of Agriculture’s website when it is made available to learn first hand the reports made. She is legal, she is profitable, and she is monitored, there is nothing more that can be done. She is well within her rights to own and operate this Company with the volume of “merchandise” she currently has. Oh and support the local Rottie rescue organization in this area, as well as any of the three shelters in Greensburg, Latrobe, and Mt Pleasant. Because we all know where over populated puppies end up… Do we have to condone this, like it, support it? No, we can educate the public… And at the very least we are allowed our disgust. I sit here with yet another rescued Rottweiler in my home, because of just such a local example. Her kennel is not the first I have been aware of and it won’t be the last. But at the very least allow me my disgust; after all I am sure if I haven’t already fostered one of your Company’s products, I soon will. |

| Re: Sickening just sickening Sunshine4Sarah, Thank you for an excellent and very informative post. Sounds like going from a Class 4 license to a Class 5 is nothing to brag about... it just means the licensee, like Ms. Wentling, has MORE dogs in her commercial operation.

| Re: Sickening just sickening Just a point to nitpick (maybe it's been said but I didn't see it). Slander is spoken as opposed to libel which is written down. Both typically require some sort of proof that the statements are untrue or have malicious intent to defame the targeted individual. Since the original statements were presented as someone's opinion and facts were roughly repeated from a published advertisement, this really isn't a case of libel. |

| Re: Sickening just sickening If you do a yahoo search you will notice in one of the results for Wentling Mountain Kennels- right next to it- it says: "Rottweiler Puppies for sale ... WENTLING MOUNTAIN KENNELS. More Info. Breed: Rottweiler. Location: ... We are a small, hobby 'Code of Ethics' kennel. ..." Not sure if that is her description of her "kennel" or another result shown next to hers? If it IS indeed her description of her kennel it really coulnt get FURThER off the mark or more delusional than that!
