| Studies- How to get involved I didn't want to highjack any other threads, and maybe all the info I am looking for is out there and I am not sure where to look, but I was wondering about all the breed studies. I see people talking about genetic testing, and different studies, and I wonder how to get involved in these. What studies/tests are out there, and who can participate? Can spayed/neutered dogs participate, do you need more then one dog from a certain family line to be in a study? I'd be happy to add Arwen to what studies I can if it would somehow help the breed. Can anyone post some links or tell me how to get involved. |

| Re: Studies- How to get involved The Canine Health Foundation has a pretty good list of what's going on. Other things, one often finds out about as friends forward you info. You can get a DNA sample of your dog taken and sent in to the OFA for a future registry (to be used when needed). Most studies don't care if the dog is intact or not, though there's one at Tufts that I just was informed of, which is for bitches who have been pregnant (or will be bred in next 6mos). Yes, they usually want pedigree info b/c they're often trying to determine not only the location of a gene (in the overall genome) but also what it's transmission is. If you don't have tracable parents, etc, you will get no where in determining how a trait is passed along. Most studies will tell you what the inclusion criteria are.

| Re: Studies- How to get involved Here's another good source for breed studies, research, seminars, etc., that directs to the actual sites: ARHC - All Rottweiler Health Concerns "In Memory of all the Rottweilers who Have Died Due to Canine Diseases" It includes the RHF, AKC/CHF, OFA, CHIC, DNA, etc. There is other breed information that is also provided on this site, dedicated to our breed's health concerns.
