line-breeding or in-breeding

If the same name appears twice in my dogs three generation pedigree does that make him inbred? One of his great grandmother's on his sires side is the same as one of his great grandmother's on his dams side. What is the difference between line breeding and inbreeding? If this has already been discussed, any links would be great.

Re: line-breeding or in-breeding

inbred usually refers to immediate family breeding. example- brother to sister, mother to son.
linebred usually refers to common relative within 4 generations. examples-great grandfather to great granddaughter. great uncle to great niece.
does this help?

apart from this particular great granmother appearing twice, any more names appear more than once?
maybe at that point it was a close breeding(1/2 sibling breeding), then linebred.

Re: line-breeding or in-breeding

Nope. Greatgranmamma is the only one. That would make his grandmother on his sire's side half sibling to his grandfather on his dam's side....making his parents second cousins??(i guess). Doesn't sound like your description of in- breeding to me.

I really, really wanted to make that joke but resisted. The fact that you couldn't help yourself has got me rolling on the floor.
