Yes, it would! And unfortunately many of these so-called breeders (screening so carefully for good puppy homes) are not really screening for good homes at all, but are screening YOU to make sure YOU are a complete novice.

Only a complete novice will be "wowed" by all the paperwork (false and legitimate) and "stories" this type of breeder will tell them. Anyone with a little experience under their belt would not be welcomed in this type of breeder's home. Too risky. And sadly, there will always be novices coming up the ranks!

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

Anyone know if the CKC papers will say German next to the dogs name? Out of curiosity. There is a local ad in the Nashville paper for a female German rottweiler puppy. I'd love to call someone on that lie. It ticks me off. Ad it to my huge pet peeves list.

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

By CKC, do you mean Continental KC? That is a bogus registry designed to collect people's money and sell paperwork recognized by no one. There is also the Canadian KC, which IS a valid registry and I do not know if they say GER on them or not.

If someone is advertising puppies with Continental Kennel Club paperwork, I wouldn't expect to find anything but a litter of muts, as the ConKC will let YOU tell them what breed your dog is, and then register it as such.

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

Maybe I'll call them and ask. Just to erk them.....

Then again, I'm sure they are the highest of quality - being $200 each or best offer......

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

If a dog was imported from another country (ex. Germany), and then CKC registered, yes, it will say (GER) after their name. Here is an example;

http://www.trojanrottweilers.com/die...gistration.jpg

(the dam was a German import, and was bred to a dog living in Germany, that was not CKC registered, so he just has his ADRK # in front of his name)

Here is a scan of a newer CKC registration certificate - the CKC changed them a few years ago;

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

I really appreciate the time and thought put into this thread, it is invaluable. We got Gunner pre-RDN and without doing any research on anything. I am glad to say only that we have so far been very blessed with him, and free of problems. If I were to do it all again, I would do NOTHING the same.

In the distant distant future I can definately see getting another Rottweiler and I know this thread among a wealth of other things will be at my disposal, so thank you!!!

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

One tiny addition to this thread: if an OFA Cardiac exam included an echocardiogram (as opposed to auscultation only), it is noted as part of the number and result. This is Freya's number (just received Saturday! so not on OFA website yet):

RO-CA2527/32F/C-PI-ECHO

And this appears in the results area:

NORMAL - CARDIOLOGIST, ECHO

I'll post a graphic this evening.

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

Yes, Vikka and Xcel just received those too (I'm still trying to get OFA to update Vik's number to an Echo number, I have the certificate but the online has not changed).

I'll bet there's lots of people who could clear up your confusion. What are your questions?

Re: Registration papers, health certificates -- what do they look like?

I posted another thread about my pups ancestry. I researched the breeder very well, and have no doubts about the dog. Just kinda wondering WTH does all the numbers and letters after the dogs name means?
