Arbi - that job is too much to ask. Do a search for BYB's and and read the sticky about why not to breed your nice dog.

Definately good advise. Just because your friends want puppies is NOT a reason to breed. Do a search on this forum. You'll get lots of reasons why NOT to breed.

Please look up petfinder and see how many homeless Rottweilers we already have in America. Please do a search of our member Lorrie and read about how her days are filled up because other people decided to breed Rottweilers and she is left to clean up the mess and lastly please have your boy Nuetered. I lost my Male GSD to testicular Cancer at the age of 7.

As one actively involved in rescue, I appreciate the fact you're here, asking questions before you bred your dog. Wearing my rescue hat, I assure you we do not need anymore untitled, unproved, unknown dogs without health clearances being bred. I wish the person who bred the 16 mo old male frisking around in our pen, the latest addition to my rescue program, had come here first.

The reality is you have a nice pet. Neuter him and leave it at that. Those friends of your who think they want Rottie puppies--what do they actually know about the breed? How much research have they done? Why do they want a Rottie? Do they know some insurance companies will not insure the homes of people who have this breed? Instead of breeding your dog, it would be far better for you to suggest to those friends of yours who think they want a Rottie to come here and start reading, to get in touch with their local rescue group, to go to dog shows, and to start talking to Rottie breeders.

Re: *** looking for bitch ****

Please do NOT. So, you think you have good homes lined up, right? What will happen when thease good homes end up not being able to care for the puppies? Will you be responsible for checking up on your pups? Will you be able to take them back in when the pups become too much for the lives in your good home?
My husband's step-aunt bred her female to her daughter's male. Before the mating happened she had 15 "good homes" lines up for her pups. All, friends and family. Well, the litter had 7 pups. Everything whent off without a problem. Zelda delivered with ease and was an excellent mother. The "breeder" put in a great effort and my Asee is a great dog. Everything sounds great doesn't it. Real easy money, right? No, here is where it goes south. Of the 15 "good homes" only a few honoured their "commitment." The other pups were then sold off to strangers, with one given to me at 4 months old. Now, the "breeder's" son can no longer take care of his girl and she when back. One of the pups has since died of parvo (not enough money for vaccinations , one was suspected of having ovarian cancer, but yet again not enough money to to run tests, and these are the ones that I know about. Three of the seven have suffered from the lack of commitment by their owners.
What I am going to write may be rude and a cruel generalization. For the most part (there are exceptions to this) people that buy unproven dogs of uncertian health history from BYB are unable the handle the routine care and expences of the pups. These pups will not live out their home as a treausered member of a loving family. They will end up with a bozo. Many of the pups you think you have a good home for will end up a danger to those around then from lack of knowledgable upbrining, medical care and socialization and just plain ignorance. Those who truely want to provide a good home to puppies will NOT WANT your pups. They will research breeders and find a code of ethics breeder, and it will not be you.
Please do not continue looking for a bitch to breed with. Nothing good will come out of it.
Sorry for my bluntness, but some times thing do not need to be sugar coated

Re: *** looking for bitch ****

We were walking in the park near the new house we will be getting soon this weekend. The county Humane Society is across the street and we met a volunteer waking a female Rotty. 18 months or so and a huge love bug! What a sweetie, we fell in love (and if she is still there (no-kill shelter) when we move we will probably take her) but this is the point. I got home and tried to look her up on their website. The same shelter has at least 5 Rotties (note the girl we met was not even listed, so who knows how many more) including one boy "Ghost" who had been there 2 years, and he is only 2-1/2 now. So really, the world does not need anymore backyard breed dogs. Take your friends to a shelter or direct them to reputable breeders.

Good luck with making the right decision...

Hi Arbi. Welcome to the forums. It's a fantastic site to learn from. There are "stickys" inside each subject that are there to streamline information on some of the 'big' questions around here. Random breedings & BYB's are big topics that have been addressed many, many times. Please take the time to read through them.

I see that you are a resident of Los Angeles. In case you don't know, there is a mandatory spay/neuter legislation in the works that will be taking effect shortly. I can tell you that currently your dog would NOT be an exemption, and, by law, you will be required to neuter him. You might want to prepare yourself for that. On this forum in the Breed Specific topic there are threads that talk about this new legislature.

I've got no doubt your Diesel is a nice dog. If you or your friends are in the market for puppies I will be happy to provide you with some names of reputable breeders, or with Rottweiler Rescue of Los Angeles, occasionally puppies are available for adoption.

Re: *** looking for bitch ****

AngelBunny - I could not agree with you more. Well said - bravo - {insert round of applause - standing ovation}...

Please Arbi, love your boy for who he is, and ask your friends and family to look to rescue or a shelter for their family companions. I know of too many folks who have bred their 'nice dogs' for friends and family and when those pups were born, those friends and family were not ready for puppies...so rescue was called or the pups AND MOMMA DOG were dumped at a shelter...

No papers = no puppies...and even if there are papers - you need to prove he is worthy of passingo n his DNA to future generations by showing him in conformation and other venues - obedience, tracking, carting, herding, agility, etc...before you even think of studding him...and at 6 years old, he is about 5 1/2 years behind the rest of the dogs out there who have been showing since 6 months of age...
