Vaginal Strictures

Hi.

Does anyone have any information on this problem, treatment of, success ratios, etc?

I'd be most appreciative!

Hi Lauren, I leased a bitch that was never bred. My stud dog could not penetrate her and was not new to breeding. He was so intent on breeding her. I never even thought of a stricture.
So I collected him and did an AI. While inserting the pipette and semen into her I didnt feel anything. But while holding my finger in her for a few minutes I started feeling around and FREAKED when I felt this band of tissue!
I brought her to the vet and he said it could be snipped while under, but since she may be pregnant he wouldnt advise doing it.
He said the band usually gets softer and thinner when pregnant and the puppy usually breaks it. If not then I could break it since that area is numb when in labor.
Of course when she gave birth it didn't break. I am not one to panic so I just put on a glove and hooked my finger around it, had someone hold her head incase it did hurt, I didn't want to be eaten! And I quickly pulled it, it snapped right away without even a flinch from the bitch. Out came the puppy. The Vet examined her afterwards and said she was fine.
I would advise having the surgery before being bred of course. I was told it is a very bloody procedure.

Thanks for the info, Lori! She's going in next week for an ultrasound as well as check for a stricture.

Funny..but there isn't a lot of info available on the Net about it.

Sounds like you did an AI also. Is that how you found the stricture too?

Hi,

We did both - just didn't achieve an inside tie. This is a substantial bitch so she isn't small so I thought perhaps this was something to consider.

She's going in to the vet this week and then I will know for sure. Keeping my fingers crossed!
