| Genetics Is there a good web site or does someone here know how the different traits of rottweilers are inherited. I understand genetics and was wondering if there is a list of traits and inheritance patterns. For example is hip displaysia a dominate gene? a recessive? polygenic? incomplete dominance etc. Any studies on temperment as far as the nature vs nurture argument? I'll be getting a rottie as soon as I find a good one, and since I have an interest in genetics and may breed some day I'd like to find out some of this info. It would be great to say something like there is a 25% chance of this or that instead of saying there's a "pretty good chance". Thanx |

| Re: Genetics There are many books on genetics of dogs avilable at: http://www.dogwise.com As for HD, it's polygenic with variable expression. Most traits are polygenic. SAS is thought to be dominant with incomplete penetrance. Other breeds are studying this more than the Rottweiler community is. Many cancers are thought to be heritable but so far no concrete evidence of the same.
