Recognizing a Good Pedigree Hi; As some of you know, when I'm alittle older I want to become a Rottweiler breeder. But with all the talk of great dogs and pedigrees, I don't really know many more than a few of the "great" dogs in Rottweiler history. Many I've never heard of. so my question is, how do you learn about dogs in a pedigree and great dogs of the past? Does it come with time, do you study pedigree and pedigree information, or is it just something you either know or don't know. How do you learn about dogs outside of your own country? The dogs I can recognize in pedigrees are generally american-bred that I've seen in shows or in the show-stats, but I'd really like to learn about European Kennels and their top show dogs. If anyone can tell me or point me in the right direction to learning more about these pedigrees I'd appreciate it. ------------------ - Dana - "All Rottweilers were created equal"

If you have the chance, purchase the ARC Rottweiler Pictorials! They are awesome! Still available are 4th and 5th edition... imagine 1200 pages of rottweilers from 1992 and before. I recently received both editions as a gift and they are probably my most prized possesions as far as research material go. Carlie

How could I get copies and how much do they cost? Also there was a CD available which is suppose to be a complete view of the Rottweiler for breeders/judges/fanciers. Its suppose to discuss genetics, standards, and have a dog you can move angulations on, etc. But its $60 and I wanted to know how good it was. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or something simalier can you please let me know. ------------------ - Dana - "All Rottweilers were created equal"

Does anyone have some sample pedigrees I can study for Rottweilesr? I studied indepth into the pedigree of the litter I'm considering which is how I learned about a lot of dogs. But thats just one pedigree, and I'd like to study and research more if possible. If you could send them to me at pets_101@mailcity.com I'd appreciate it http://www.rottweiler.net/rottie/smile.gif ------------------ - Dana - "All Rottweilers were created equal"

If you want more information on the Pictorials, contact ARC via their webpage. I think they are $55 for the 4th & 5th editions as a package. There was a rumor that a 6th edition would be done but not until the remaining editions sold (last I hear there were about 100 still left) from 1992. I cannot tell you how often I look at these books. Having only owned "pedigreed" (my first was a rescue) rottweilers since 1994 it's very interesting to read about any dog related to one of mine and especially fun to see photos of them. ARC website : www.amrottclub.org If you want to see sample pedigrees without spending any $, just type "Rottweiler" into a search engine and you'll find hundreds of rottweiler websites and pedigrees to read. Or buy a sample copy of TRQ or similar magazine. [This message has been edited by RoseArbour (edited September 23, 2000).]
