Puppy's Last Name

I have just purchased a female rottie, i do not have a kennel name myself so i was wondering if it is proper to use the sire or dams last name. Also it is a promient name so do i need the kennels permission. thanks for the help and any advice. Shep

This is a question your breeder should be answering.

if it is a reputable kennel then they usually REQUIRE you to add the kennel name to the pup's name

if they just sent you off with akc registration papers to fill out as you please, it doesn't sound very good to me.

No, it is not correct (at all!) to use the sire or dam's kennel name. There are many who "lie" about their dogs by attaching famous kennel names to their dog's name.

Your dog should either carry the kennel name of your breeder, or you should make one up yourself. Usually, reputable breeders discuss this long before you get home with the pup.
