Any recommended breeders?

OKay, so my hubby and I decided that in a year or so we would like to get another rottie. We want a female puppy. Frau will be 3 1/2 - 4 years old then.

I'm trying find different rottie breeders in ontario (I googled it) and so far have only found discussion of individual breeders by name is not allowed. Their dogs look nice and are active in all types of work and are OFA cert and CERF cert.

I don't care for the huge, short-muzzled, wrinkly headed rotties you see in the rings now. I prefer a more active, agile rottie that can breath well.

I hate to tell you this, but breeder recommendations are not allowed.

Okay, I wondered about that. How about just the names of breeders in ontario then? Or where I can go to find a list of breeders?

The Rottweiler Club of Canada has a breeders directory:
http://www.rottclub.ca/breeder.html

BUT, remember that just because a breeder is or is not on the list does not imply that they are reputable, or that they share the same goals in this breed that you do. It's still up to you to ask all the important questions, and decide if this is someone you want to be associated with in the future.

Here's a list of questions to ask breeders: Questions to ask breeders

I would look for someone who is actively working their dogs in sport, if that is what you prefer. Look for trials near you and attend them, see if there are any Rottweilers there.

I agree. It's too bad you're just posting this now. At the beginning of July we had a Specialty in Woodstock, Ontario where you could have seen quite a few very nice Rottweilers. I believe that would have been within driving distance for you. We also just had a specialty in Bradford (a longer trip, but doable) last weekend! There's the 2005 National Sieger on the Labor Day weekend in Niagara On The Lake. We're hosting the 2005 Canadian National in Toronto at the end of November - I'd highly suggest you come to that.

Go here to see a listing of events: http://www.rottclub.ca/events.html

The point is to get out there in the venues you're interested in and to meet the people doing it! There are many venues such as conformation (CKC and Sieger), Obedience, Tracking, Agility, Schutzhund, Carting, etc. It's great and all for people to say that they do these sports - but the proof is in the pudding when you go to those events and see them actually doing it.

Thanks a lot for the links! I'm going to look around. Obviously I want a nice look dog, but I'm more interested in one that moves nice and is active and working. I'll check out those RCC events. Thanks again.
