Wink Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

I am new here. I am not in anyway wanting to breed. I think there are too
many knowledgeable breeders out there. Besides, Zoie is my sister's 2 yr. old Rottweiler & she had her spayed. Just finding pedigree stuff interesting is all.
I will be posting Zoie's peds soon with probably alot of questions. :)
My first question is her name? Her registered name is Zoie MSF vom Birkenwald. What does the MSF stand for? Is that just part of a name? Or does it mean something? TIA

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

Does your sister know what the MSF means? It might be something that the breeder uses in their name and therefore any pups from them will have the MSF in it.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

Birkenwald is a kennel up in NH. Do you have contact with them? MSF is not a standard abreviation, so either the original owner of the dog or the breeder made it up. NO idea what it may stand for.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

A great place to research pedigrees is http://www.pawvillage.com/

It has tons of pedigrees and maybe you can find out a lot about Zoie's pedigree there.

We'll all look forward to seeing Zoie's pedigree tho, and helping you in whatever way we can.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

O.K. I ahve learned about My GSD's pedigree & found out some really neat stuff just by posting it. I found her lines are DDR working lines with a little American lines in there. I'll post Zoies. Just a few tonight & go on from there. First off? Is there such lines for Rottweilers as GSDs? Like all the lines a GSD has? EX: West German, East German, American lines, etc.?
Here goes:
Her Sire:
Stamos von Dino
WRO14253/07 (7-02) 9-19-90

Her dam:
Furrious vom Birkenwald
WRO09142/01 (6-03) 11-2-00

Sire's side:
LaCajun Aros v Hause Frick
WP657927/03 (7-98) 7-26-95
OFA48F

Danny vom Siedlerfad
WRO13120/01 (5-01) 8-21-96
(GER)

What are the different letters stand for? The WRO & WP?
I am familiar with the OFA. But does the F after it stand for Fair?
I have a 6 generation ped in front of me to learn from. There's alot I'd like to learn. I hope you all don't mind???? :) I'll post more tomorrow. Thank you again. :)

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

The WRO and WP are just letters that AKC attaches to the registrations for dogs. They don't mean a thing, it is just their alpha/numerical system that they use. When they use up all the numbers they can after any given set of letters (i.e. WP), then they start with WR (the 0 is really a zero, beginning that set of numbers).

In the instance in which this "F is used, it does mean Fair.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

In an OFA number, there is both the rating and the gender of the dog.

Vikka's number is: RO-65361E25F-PI (http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1120911#animal)

RO is for Rottweiler
65361 is her registration number, meaning she's the 65,361st Rottweiler to get a number.
E is for Excellent
25 means the evaluation was shot at 25 months of age
F is for Female
PI is permanent identification (she's microchipped).

The E can also be a G for Good or F for Fair.

In the case of your dog's parents, Furrious is OFA Good, with no permanent ID (therefore OFA doesn't guarantee that that rating truly represents that dog). Stamos is not listed in the OFA database, which does concern me because there are many older dogs in there. The Grandsire is OFA Fair, the Granddam is not listed because she arrived here with an ADRK HD- and was probably not re-shot.

Thanks, I've always wondered what the letters after the age were for, but never asked.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

It means free of Hip dysplasia. It's a rating used in Europe.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

This is SO informative - thank you. Is it worth having a neutered dog OFA tested? Just for informative purposes?

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

I had Devon OFA'd while they spayed her, for that exact reason......information. Bort is also OFA'd and neutered, but I knew I'd never breed him when I OFA'd him.

Re: Hoping to learn about Pedigrees

I had Misty OFA'd hips and elbows when she was three. She was spayed when she was 9 months old. I discovered she had OFA good hips, but bad elbows. She is from a byb, but both of her parents were OFA'd hips and elbows (clear). I firmly believe that all dogs should be x-rayed, not just "breeding" stock.
