Buying my first Rottie

Hello everyone im very excited to be here and to be getting my first Rottweiler. I have been wanting a rottie for years and finally im in a position to get one. I searched high and low on the internet for the perfect breeder and i think i have found it, im wondering if anyone else has ever bought one or knows of the breeder Do not post breeder names on the forums
I have the second pick male in the litter due in october, the Sire is Cain and the Dam is Alpine. I would appreciate any replys from current owners as to what you think about these two dogs. And again im happy to be here and look forward to chatting with you all

Welcome to the forums, and you must be so excited to be getting your first puppy.

This is a great place to learn, and the first thing I would recommend to you is to read the sticky called "buying a puppy".

If you search here on "buying a puppy" you will get a lot of good GOOD advice.

Re: Buying my first Rottie

Since you can't post breeder names on the forum I can't give you any advice there, but I have some serious food for thought for you.

Picking a breeder on line is dangerous. Anyone can say anything online and you have no way to know if they are being honest. I have heard so many horror stories of people just loving the breeders they found online. They were so helpful, answering all of their questions, promised that the puppy was beautiful, show quality, checked for genetic defects, and so on. After delivery of said puppy you are unable to get a hold of them again. Dogs are delivered at under 8 weeks of age, sick and by a year they are dead. Some live longer but the vet bills are astronomical as hip dysplasia has been crippling and expensive surgery needed.

Yes, there are some honest breeders online. But trying to sort them out is pretty risky. And since I am willing to bet that you are going to be spending a pretty penny on this pup, you might want to do a little more looking.

Go to some dog shows this fall and meet people. Talk to people who show in conformation and obedience. Look for dogs that you like and talk to the people that are handling them. Find a breeder that can tell you where every single one of their puppies are and what they are doing. You should be able to go to their house and meet their dogs. They should ask you more questions then you could possible think to ask them.

You can't get PMs, your membership is too new.

Here is hoping you have made a correct choice.

Re: Buying my first Rottie

As DP says, sorry we can't pm you.

Did the breeder give you OFA certification numbers for both parent's hips, elbows and hearts? This is VERY important and you can check to see if these numbers are correct. I know of at least one member here that is in the middle of having her dog's hips replaced. It is costing her a small fortune and the dog just turned a year old.

Sub Aortic Stenosis can kill with little warning at all and must be diagnosed by a veterinary cardiologist.

This is just a couple of things you have to worry about.

If you are planning to buy from a large kennel that also sells dobermans - walk don't run to the nearest exit!

Re: Buying my first Rottie

Read through these threads (including the links in them!) and you'll find what to look for, what to avoid, and you'll be able to make a list of questions to ask the breeder and you'll know what questions the breeder should be asking you. Do this, and I'll bet you'll have no problem discerning whether they are the breeders for you. Good luck!

Hi there neighbor...LOL, Im just up the road from you a little. I hope you listen to the people here and maybe rethink the breeder you chose. A 6 hr drive from here makes me think you might be going to a place that many here wouldnt ever get a dog from. Choose wisely and dont rush.

Re: Buying my first Rottie

this is what is in the contract, Sire:V1/00' RYS/UCI International/Canadian/U-CH Cain Von Kaden SchH1, BH ,AD,Ztp,BST,Uwp OFA Good, Elbows Clear, ....then theres DNA number and his AKC number. His father was a german service dog Moritz vom Moritzberg. Breeder tells me and shows me with picture pedigree that Out of the 30 dogs listed in the Sire and Dams pedigree 27 are HD-/OFA good. 2 are HD+/- and only one being HD+. So what do you all think???

Re: Buying my first Rottie

I saw Moritz in Germany at the Korung.
Also saw him in the states. I think he was
a excellent dog for our breed. Can you tell us
about the dam ? I think that is as important
or more important than the sire...

I looked up the dogs on google and it isn't the 'K' kennel. I think he is getting a good start in finding a puppy. I don't know the breeder personally or anything like that, but I believe this breeder is on the up and up.

Re: Buying my first Rottie

um remember guys im new to some terminolgy whats "K" club?
The Dam is Alpine v.h. Falconsnest (Danish Import) pronounced AL-PEE-NAY
her pedigree is loaded with working dogs, she is working on her Sch currently, "she is a very high energy, fast hitting dog who shows a lot of power" quoted breeder. Also Cain has pulled over 2000lbs in competition.
