Puppy died

Hello All!

Well this was supposed to be the day my puppy would be arriving from a top European working kennel, but unfortunately she died this weekend from ingesting a foreign object.

I am so bummed because this was to me an excellent combination of work/confirmation and it had literally taken me months and months and months of researching before deciding on this breeder and breeding.

Now, I am looking into more breedings; and I am sure you all know what a process that is!! I would like to get something more close to my area (like surrounding states), but know that I am unable to get referrals from this site. Please offer any suggestions.

Thank you in advance, and look forward to your replys.

Re: Puppy died

Oh my, how sad. I just wanted to offer my condolences. How tragic for that poor puppy & sad for you. I know how long it takes doing all of your research & when you're so close & then something like that happens it's so heartbreaking.

Re: Puppy died

So sorry to hear of your news. I know how hard it is to find the right puppy as I was looking for a really long time, but this was not meant to be. I am sure you will find another in time that will fulfil your needs.

Re: Puppy died

Why not hang out at some of the local working clubs? That is the best place to hear about breedings for that venue.

Re: Puppy died

Will the same breeder do a repeat breeding? Or maybe they'll do a similiar breeding? If you were that attached to the breeder, then maybe it's worth the wait until they have another litter? Just a thought.

Sorry for your loss.

Re: Puppy died

What are you looking for in a pup? YOu mention working, what sort of work are you looking at? What are someof the dogs you consider working dogs and what dogs do you consider confirmationg dogs? If you answer this people here may be able to point you towards the right mating.

Re: Puppy died

Thank you all so much for your replies.

Judi W: I'll try checking into that. Thanks for the advice!

Trish B: The breeder has some more breedings planned, but won't be available until fall/winter, and it would be more ideal to get a pup in the summer b/c winters in NY aren't the greatest.

Mick: Well, although I am a novice when it comes to working, I am very interested in working my dog towards titles (BH, possibly Sch, and/or obedience, ASR). As to what I consider working dogs, I would have to say dogs whose pedigrees are littered w/ working titles (ScH, Ztp's, etc..). I do consider AKC titles to be mainly confirmation, and am not interested in that. I seem to favor dogs that are of a work/show background, and European (my pup was out of a Balou daughter and Odin v Hause Neubrand, not extreme in drives; but w/ definite working ability).

Re: Puppy died

Ok I understand on the titles front but more what I was looking to know is are you seeking a serious working dog or simply a dog that can do the sport? Odin I get but are there any other dogs you look for in a pedigree that are a type you like? Just help to get a better idea of what you are seeking and thus who to go too.

Re: Puppy died

I know of an upcoming litter that may be to your liking. It is also a super working (and great looking) Balou daughter and a very nice working male (who is also quite a handsome guy) I don't know if I can detail the breeding?? Can someone tell me if this is legal??

Re: Puppy died

There are more reasons for hanging around a club than just looking for breedings. You should take at least one club and attend every training session for an entire week or two from beginning to end. This will give you an idea of what is involved in working a dog. This is important because you don't want to acquire a pup that has a strong need to work only to find out that you do not have the time or drive yourself to commit to that. This also gives you the opportunity to see what character and temperament contributes to this work. Don't just watch the advanced dogs, but the beginners also. Get up early enough to see the laying of the tracks and stay until the last dog is worked.

This will give you much opportunity to see what is involved and to meet people.

Thank you to all those that posted, your comments are valued.

Sherri: I wish there was some way we could communicate, but would have no idea of how to accomplish this.
