Nasty50-

I really don't think you should breed your dogs. Getting them fixed would be the best for everyone all the way around.

There is a ton of stuff you need to go through before you even THINK about breeding.

Getting your female fixed will prevent lots of health problems in the future. Females who are not spayed are prone to cancers of the reproductive systems including uterine and mammary cancers.

A lot of the members here do lots of work with rescues and trying to shut down puppy mills. The breed has a bad reputation, due in part to people breeding irresponsibly. I, for one, am glad to hear that you are not trying to breed your dogs. There are too many in shelters and with rescue groups all across the country. We have a tendency to be a little protective of the breed.

Please stick around. I am sure you will learn a lot here about the breed.

Are you sure he's gotten "tired" enough that he hasn't actually been able to impregnate her? For your sake & your dogs' sake I hope that's not the case.

Anyhow I obviously agree with everyone else. Neuter your dogs, it's the best thing for you, your dogs, and most importantly the breed in general. :)

But it doesn't sound like you are doing anything to prevent them from breeding either. Have them spayed & neutered. Not only will this prevent an 'accidental/on purposse breeding, it will prevent health issues that can arise in intact dogs...pyometra, testicular cancer, mammary gland tumors, uterine cancer....all potentially life ending problems, easily helped by spay or neuter...as for the cost, SpayUSA can help defray the cost...most vets throughthis program charge a certain amount by weight. We had a 75 pound rott mix at our local shelter neutered for about $80.

Anne hit it right on the nail. It DOES NOT sound like you are doing anything to prevent the dogs from breeding.

And, given the information that you posted.......you should have dogs that have been spayed and neutered.

I even thought it might be one of those pranks posts, but I think not!:(

One reason could be a bad heart. If you've not done all your health testing, who knows what your two might genetically produce together.

As everyone else has said, do them both a favor, get them spayed/neutered and on top of that, it sounds as if your boy could use a total health workup (heart check, bloodpanel, etc.) to see what potential health problems he might have.

I'm not trying to scare you, I'm (along with everyone else on the forum) trying to make you realize why everyone on this forum is so adament about health checks on dogs that will be used for breeding. Breeding is so much more than just letting them get it on in your backyard! :( Get them separated until they are both spayed & neutered!
