I think the first step is for you to define what qualities you are looking for in a dog. That will define what you need to look for in a breeder. :)

I just want a good smart pet. That would go through obedience, very likely therapy dog and POSSIBLY search and rescue.
I would also take him to many activites involving dogs ( rescue activites, awareness activities, etc). So I would need a dog that comes from a stable line in temperment.
And before anyone says "well you work in rescue why not one of those?" Its rare for a pup to go into rescue and an adult dog would not work right now in my household because of a 9 yr old sheltie who has become KING, LOL. He loves pups but acts a bit stressed when we introduce him to older dogs, not sure why since he grew up with rotties, maybe being so long without one has made him forget how great they are!

Hey Kim,

Let me dig up an email address that I'll PM to you. This is a good friend who breeds her own very infrequently, but she *knows* everybody, and health is a major thing with her. She just moved from near Charlotte to near Raleigh.

Glad to hear you're in the market!
