searching for breeders and getting confused!! Unfortunately I could not make it the dog show in my area!! I have been searching the web and reading ALOT about breeders. The more I read the more confused I get. There was a breeder in California(very popular, with some great dogs) I was interested in and then I had another breeder (of quality with no breedings planned for 2 years) tell me NO WAY! Also, she had told me that the price of thier pups was unreasonable($4000 us ) I was considering having a pup shipped to me, but I also am unsure of the effects on the pup. Some people say Never and some people do it all the time. I want a quality breeder with a proven record. I guess I am looking for some direction. The loss of my boy is so recent, I don't want to jump into anything but at the same time I do not want to wait 6 months for a pup. Please feel free to PM me. HELP HELP HELP!!!

Why the rush? My advice...SLOW down. Take your time. If it is the right pup - healthy and stable temperamentally - and you feel comfortable with the breeder, then any amount of time should not be too long to wait. Don't let your desire for a pup overwhelm you doing what is best for you and that future pup. I see this all too often and that is when pups end up in pounds and owners end up disillusioned. I waited for Disel's breeding to come a long for 6 years because I wanted to make sure I was getting the dog I wanted. Once we put a deposit down we waited 5 months to bring him home. Our next pup we are waiting 10 months for since the first tie did not take. And our third pup we are waiting 15 months for as the breeding is not planned until next year. So, if it is really worth it, you can and will wait. I am in the Philadelphia area and know several good breeders with pups on the ground or soon to be on the ground and all are within a fairly reasonable driving distance. Please PM me and I can help steer you in the right direction. Last edited by samanthac; 11-17-2003 at 02:14 PM.

I wouldnt pay 4000 anythings for a pup. There are plenty of people breeding very nice dogs for much much less. I dont know that Id wait 6 years, Im much too impatient for that, but I agree, look around and dont rush into it. Remember, you're buying the breeder as well :) I dont think 6 months to a year is an unreasonable amount of time to search.

Unless your set on a puppy have you considered rescue. There are alot of really great dogs out there waiting for a nice, Rottie experienced home. In fact, you may even find a puppy since there are so many displaced Rotties out there.
