| Suggestions...please! What would you do? I'm looking for output from breeders, and dog owners one what to do? You purchased a "registered" puppy form a breeder, with a co-ownership clause on the dog. You notice that the puppy has entropion and take it to a specialist. The specilaist declares that it is border line due to the rapid skull growth and recommeds that you return in a few months. At a later date friends notice, people that are active in the showing, that the dog has a level bite. Remembering at one point showing the mother and seeing that she is border line. N-E-Ways more problems are found out like dog is 1 yr. and still doesn't have registered # or even litter #. There is a basic contract that was written out at date of purchase, claiming that this a co-ownership between the two, and details about gentic faults arising that a replacement pup will be sent(due that it was a show prospect), another pup is not wanted. When the was first told that there could be a problem with the eyes she replied" I'm sorry, but that isn't my problem, and if you can't handle it then put the dog down." Can't she not say this isn't it half her dog? My suggestions was to go to the specialist, and get a written copy on its eyes, and another by a vet on the bite. The find a local judge, fimilar with the working breed, and get a written critque of the dog. Then send a package with the contract to the breeder. We are at bottom of our chain here, to have a joy talked about as if it was nothing, and worried about the negative effects that could come up from this. This "breeder" was a doll before , trusting , honest , kind, and so very helpful and now she changed to this she-.......... The other the to consider is that she may be moving to Germany for a couple years, maybe soon, she we may have to crunch time. Please what would you do? Thanks |

| Neuter him and have his eyes fixed. Take him home, love him and consider this an expensive lesson.

| What does your contract say? Does it cover if he does have or develop a severe fault? From just reading this thread, I have to agree with the other two responses you already got. |

| I'm sorry this happened, however, it doesn't sound as if your breeder is ethical (as Lauren said, consider this your lifetime lesson to do your research thoroughly in future). I have to agree, I don't think you have any options here other than to neuter him, fix his eyes, and love him (there's no reason you can't compete with him in performance events).

| 1) You're going to have to get his eyes fixed on your own (for now). 2) Get a note from your vet that this is a genetic fault. 3) Get the bite assessed by a judge and get a letter. 4) Get a note from your vet stating that the bite too, is genetic. 5) Report the breeder to the parent rottweiler club and the national club (AKC or CKC). Their status needs to be removed. 6) Neuter your dog. It really is too bad. This is one of the faults with contracts which state "replacement puppy". What if you're attached to the dog? Which, of course you are. What if ANOTHER dog is too much for you right now? I know my hands are full with only one. Problems with a puppy on a genetic / fault level should be: Replacement puppy of like quality/potential OR refund of money upon proof of spay/neuter - as per the OWNERS decision. Best of luck. Please note: NEVER let the originals of ANY of your letters / contracts / etc. leave your possession. Always photo copy and send those out. Keep the originals under lock and key.

| Just a little FTR: Writing letters and filing complaints to the COE club the breeder is a member of will do no good unless the buyer is also a member in good standing.

| I believe this person lives in the UK so any rules with the clubs there might be quite different than in the US. |
