I love how they even say they're not a puppy mill...oh, well since they SAID they weren't a puppy mill, the fact that they want to breed 200+ puppies a year must mean they're a good, ethical breeding operation, right? Clearly they must have time to socialize each and every puppy, and there won't be any pressure to get rid of the puppies so they'll be sure and research every potential owner carefully and stay in touch and be prepared to take each one back if there's a problem...right? RIGHT?

How very sad. AKC should refuse to register them. Mass production does not produce a better product.

The sad thing is, the picture is of a nice looking, smiling woman with rolly-polly puppies. Joe-Schmoe on the voting committee would think 'they seem nice enough...'

As long as pet stores are able to move their product, there will be puppy mills. Until we stop the demand by the market, there will be a 'need' *gag* for people like these in the article. :(

For whatever good it will do, I fired off a letter to the reporter that wrote the story.

Was also thinking about e-mailing AKC about it. Does anyone think that will do any good?

"We're interested in quality and good temperament, especially with this breed"

So, breeding 200 puppies a year, you would have a good chance of producing about 10 with good temperaments, don't ya think? The more you produce, the more likely you are to get a good one out of the bunch! Wonderful!:(

If you'd like to make more of a difference by sending to someone who might make a difference... here's some info..

To give input on the proposed rott farm - please send faxes to

608-789-4821 Attn. County Board Chair

You can also call that phone number is 608-785-9563.

Also, I did a search on the woman's name and found an ad she had posted on one of those online puppy selling sites... It has her phone number as:
please do not post personal phone numbers

Not sure if it works, but if anyone wants to call and give the people a hard time... I say have at it!!!

I personally worry about finding homes for a litter of 10, let alone 200 puppies in 1 year... YIKES

Factory farm pigs, chickens and now Rottweilers! (and make NO mistake - with that kind of output it will be a FACTORY) Especially with all the Breed Specific legislation, insurance restrictions going on - what is this lady going to do with her 200+ puppies a year? God help those poor dogs. It is unconscionable! All rescue people - start getting more kennels and lists of prospective adopters ready. Let me see - Cromwell and Neemo are 8 years old - so I will give them another 3 to 4 years; Roxy will go with Stephanie so that will leave only Daisy - Yeah, I guess in about 3 to 4 years you can put me down for three dogs.

Emailing the AKC will do no good whatsoever. They are a registry - a business. So long as they are handling paperwork properly, DNAing dogs according to their rules or not violating any other rule of theirs, they will welcome them. Those people represent a lot of $$ to the AKC.

The thing to do is write the letters to the appropriate people listed, the local kennel club, local Rottweiler club, the ARC and local rescues. It's imperative the Learn Before You Buy information sink it's roots in in that town and surrounding areas. The more educated the public, the less chance these people have of selling their dogs.

Education works. Things that should be touched on are the legal issues associated with this breed. Insurance troubles. Lifetime training. Expensive health issues.

The best defense is a good offense. Instead of directing the problem at that couple, direct it as a whole. Let the information show folks that it's up to responsible people (breeders) to measure up.

Here's the latest...

Hi - Thank you for your calls and faxes yesterday with regards to the proposed Rott puppy mill that would produce hundreds of rott puppies annually in Lacrosse Wisconsin. The County Board decided to table the motion for one month. They were overwhelmed with opposition. Please continue to forward this to other rescue groups and shelters!

I spoke to the local humane society. They are asking shelters and rescue groups to continue to put the heat on and send letters and faxes to the County Zoning Department and County Board in opposition. The zoning board did no research on this proposal and did not realize that many communities ban certain breeds and that insurance companies won't cover some breeds as well. They also request that you send letters to the local newspaper to continue to gather opposition to this. There are a few puppy mills in that area - maybe by putting on the heat - they will clean up their act or close up as well.

Final comment why we all have to be involved - the propose Rott farm owners said they don't care about Wisconsin's regulations because most of their dogs are sent to other states in the Midwest!!!!! That means if this goes through shelters and rescues in a 10 state area will be bombarded with rotties!!!!!
