Will it EVER end?!?!

Ok, it has been a VERY long time since I have had a female Rottie that was not spayed and Akasha is currently in heat. We had a false alarm a week or two before she actually came in (I was being a little over cautious;) ) so, we got a little practice in before the "real" thing, but she has been in heat now for 26 days and I am starting to think it will NEVER end! Is this normal or should I be concerned? She is still swollen and has a discharge so I know she still in and we started counting the first day we noticed a discharge. Of course maybe we were a little over zealous (sp?) and started counting too early wanting to make sure we didn't have any "accidents". Either way I just want to make sure that this is not something I should be concerned about.

...

The average heat cycle is about 21 days.

Pooh's thyroid lowered after she whelped Attila, and her last heat cycle went on for an entire month, and she didn't even ovulate till day 26-27, and possibly later.... My thoughts are that because of her thyroid, her reproductive system has been affected. And so, the knife is in order.

What does your vet have to say about it?

I haven't called the vet yet because I wasn't sure if it is normal or if I should be concerned. If she is sitll in Monday I will be calling the vet. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she is out by then.

I have a question (since my young female is going thru the same thing at the moment- her 2nd heat). Do you start counting days at the first sign of red colored discharged or any discharge? I'm assuming it's at the first sign of blood. She's in the middle of week 2 so we're having lots of fun :o
