The perfect rottweiler

I know this may sound like a dumb question but here goes:

Does anyone have a picture of the ideal rott. I mean what the perfect rott should look like, a rott to which all others should be based on.

I am just wondering because when I go to look for another rottie I want a show dog.

The reason I ask is I have seen many pic of just beautiful rotts and so on and so forth but I want to know what the perfect on should look like.

Thank you all Brian

I doubt there will ever be the 'ideal' rottweiler. As it's all a matter of perception and opinion. However, if you go here:

http://www.milehighrotties.org/arc_index.html

You'll see the ARC National Speciality winners dogs. These are top notch dogs and will have many of the qualities that you're looking for.

Just keep in mind that these are dogs that won on that day, which may not have won under different judges. However, are of good substance and will give good examples of what to strive for.

Best case scenario? Go to some shows, become a member of your local breed group and learn what you like and don't like. Once you form your own opinion as to the why's and what's - you'll be a better judge of what you want in your next pup. ;)

If you go to the AKC website there is a picture of a rott along with the breed description. I don't really know all that much about conformation, but I would think they would get a pretty good example.

Like Trish said, its a matter of perception. Personally I like dogs that are very typey...what I mean by that is strong in breed type and structure and presence...dogs like Jeneck's Sam, Jenecks Wotan, Moritz vom Moritzburg, Axel vom Calibra. I am also partial to many of the old German greats...Rick, Dingo, Santo, Nero, Hassan...the list could go on and on. But its is also important to me that above looks that these dogs have solid working ability.

A friend of mine who is a judge said that the perfect Rottweiler is one that you can take into the forest and leave there. Then you should walk back out and call them. They should part the trees on their way back out.

I personally thought that was the most poignant, fitting description of this breed that I have ever heard.

I think that the perfect Rottweiler is as much a personal opinion as the perfect dessert. I think that my Chase is the perfect rottweiler, but I can pretty much guarentee that not everyone would agree with me.

I like the heavier heads and a lot of bone. I am more concerned with temperment and workability in my next dog however.

I lived in Germany for 4 years. I don't know where in the country you were, but I saw plenty of junk rottweilers while I was there. I saw far less of the "ideal" dogs.

I agree with Trish, go to shows. Find the lines you like and talk to the people you meet. That is the best way to go.

I doubt I'll come close to finding my ideal rott at an AKC conformation show. I'd prefer to see a dog in its working environment to see temperment, drives and conformation. But, if you're looking for a show dog... then a show would be a good place to start.

Please keep in mind that all that perfection to the eye is meaningless unless the dog can produce. You'd darn well better be including the bitches in the equasion as well. By producing, I don't want to see a dog that has produced some nice get but been bred 120 times to get there either.

Very cute:D

And I understand what you are all saying, the ideal rottweiler is your's LoL

I was just wondering in terms of looks. As far as what the original breeders wanted from there dogs in terms of physical looks and stucture.

LOL!!Wrath that is just CUTE!!:D Now post one of you with the dogs paw above YOUR head. hehehe. I agree that no one can tell you what " the perfect dog" looks like. There are Standards set by the AKC. Maybe this is what you were looking for?AKC Standards for Rottweilers Also, what the original breeders want isn't always a good thing. There was one " Breeder" that was recently posted about( not a member) that strives to get the Rottweiler " back to their original size. Like over 200 pounds..... very sad indeed
