So many Rotties No Papers to back them up

I am in the process of searching for a Male Rotty pup but I have come across some bumps and bruise to the diguest of how some people just take advantage of these loving animals I had one before for 14 years and he had a long battle of cancer and we couldnt stop it from spreading so my heart was broken and now I am looking for another one but at some point in time you have to say that some of the prices that they want for these animals is really out of control

I contacted some people in yugoslavia and they want 3,000 and better for a rotty pup that is and i also visited some of my local pet shops and they didnt even have documentation for these animals do did they ganurantee me if the pup has a hip problem that i would have a lifetime ganurantee so now i am asking where can I get a wonderful rotty pup from

;)

Well, a PET SHOP is surely NOT the place to go!!

How about rescue. Are you THAT set on getting a dog with "papers"? If so, why?

Many rescues have puppies. Your local SHELTER probably has puppies.

Many breeders will have a "pet quality" dog in the litter......be weary of the breeder that has a FULL litter of "SHOW QUALITY" puppies.

There MANY people here that are going to be able to help you.

I am just throwing a couple of suggestions out there for you.

Also, I'm SO SORRY about your boy. 14 years......wow!!!

Dear Rotties29,

I'm sorry about the loss of your dog.

I also suggest you consider adopting a dog from a rescue group. Have you checked out Petfinders where you specify the breed you want and the possibilities come up closest to your ZIP code and go up to 500 dogs of that breed going out in geographic distance from you?

Also, when you say 'pup', do you mean a puppy? There are advantages to adopting a 'baby' (up to 1-2 yo). If you really don't care about papers but are primarily concerned about health and disposition, a dog over 6 mos old lets you know a lot more about those factors. A good rescue group can help you find the right dog for you and your lifestyle. Good luck and keep us posted.

Linda

It can not be stressed enough:

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store !!!

No respectable breeder who cares about a breed of dog would ever sell to a pet store and not know to whom their puppies are going to !!

DID PETFINDER AND PETPAGES

THAT DOESNT WORK EITHER BECAUSE I LEARNED THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE LIKE TO TAKE YOU FOR A JOKE OR GAME IM NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN A SHELTER AS I SAID BEFORE

IM GOING TO PURCHASE MY BABY AS I DID MY LAST AND THAT IS HOW I AM GOING TO DO IT NO OTHER WAY IM NOT IN A RUSH RIGHT NOW I AM JUST SNOOPING AROUND CHECKING OUT WHAT IS WHAT AND FEELING PEOPLE OUT THREW CORRESPONDENCE THREW WHAT WE CALL EMAIL

SEE I HAVE BEEN TAKEN FOR MY MONEY BEFORE RATHER JUST RECENTLY BY SOME ONE IN YUGOSLAVIA SO IM NOT GOING TO BE SO OPENED LIKE THAT AGAIN SEE PEOPLE CANT GIVE ME TO MUCH ADVISE BECAUSE I LIKE TO LEARN ON MY OWN AND I HAVE THEIR HAVE BEEN 2 INCIDENTS WHERE ONE LADY WANTED ME TO PAY HER 2000 FOR HER PUPPY BUT I COULDNT ASK HER NOTHING ABOUT HER DOGS THAT BREED THESE PUPS AND SHE GOT IRRATE WITH ME AND BLOCKED ME FROM HER EMAIL SO MY THING IS IF YOU HAVE PAPERS THAN YOU SHOULDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO HIDE

ANOTHER INCIDENT WAS 2 PEOPLE CONTACTED ME FROM ONLINE TELLING ME THAT THEY HAD A ROTTIE PUP AND I COULD COME AND SEE IT SO I END UP TAKING MY CHILDREN TO SEE THIS PUP AND THEIR WAS NO PUP SO THAT WAS ANOTHER 8 HUNDRED DOLLARS DOWN THE DRAIN FEEL ME

SO IM NOT DOING NO SHELTER AND PRECAUTION IS WHAT I AM TAKING AT THIS PRESENT MOMENT AND IN DUE TIME I WILL FIND THE RIGHT BREEDER ALWAYS REMEMBER WHAT SUITS YOU DOESNT SUIT ME THAT IS WHAT MAKE LIFE AND PEOPLE SO DIFFERENT

Sorry, but these people were just posting their opinion. You were wondering where you could get a "wonderful rotty pup" from & they told you that shelters & rescues are a wonderful resource. Maybe that isn't an option for YOU but you didn't specify that in your first post. Many people on this board have adopted from rescues/shelters & have wonderful dogs.

Okay - reputable rescues would find out what it was that you wanted from your dog. They would then research you, to ensure that you were a good home. Once they found that you were, they'd look at the dogs they had and match you with a dog that would meet your needs, that you would match their needs.

A good breeder would want you to meet them and their dogs BEFORE any money changes hands. This is a given. They should be more interested in YOU and the type of home that you'd provide for their puppy rather than your money. If all they talk about is money, then start walking. No, RUN!

Your profile says you're in the Bronx of New York. Why on earth are you looking to Yugoslovia? There are WONDERFUL breeders within just a few hours of you.

Here are a couple of Rottweiler Rescue groups in NY:

Grant's Animal Rescue
Grant King
Syracuse, NY
Phone : (315)431-4748

Greater New York Rottweiler Club
John Gianninoto
310 Brook Ave.
Bayshore, NY 11706

MCM Rottweiler Rescue, Inc. c/o Mary Schlager
110 Bourndale Road South Manhasset, New York
Tel: 516-627-0131

Here are some Rottweiler Clubs that you can contact so that you can attend some shows / competitions to meet the right kind of people:

http://www.usrcweb.org/
http://www.amrottclub.org/
http://www.colonialrottclub.org/
http://www.mrcrottweiler.org/

I'm sure that any of these will be happy to direct you to the pup of your dreams.

Best of luck.

documentation

Hi,

I have three Rotties, 2 females and one male. My male is unregistered, but his hips, elbows, eyes and health is in tip top condition. I have had well over 20 offers to stud him out. I have not done so because they couldn't produce any health records. My point is, registration is nothing compared to the health of the wonderful animals.

So, if someone had a female with all the health certs would you breed your male with her?

You need to decide what characteristics you want in your dog. What is important to you? What will the dog be doing on a daily basis? Do you wish to compete? Just have a faithful companion? A dog to show?

I do not understand why you have been sending people money BEFORE discussing the dog with the breeder. That makes no sense, and no reputable breeder would use such a practice.

Many people research/buy dogs via email correspondance, that is not so unusual. In order to be taken seriously by reputable breeders you need to present an honest picture of yourself, have a clear picture of what you're looking for (and NOT looking for) in your next puppy, and also be able to carry on an intelligent discussion about the breed.

Finally, please beware of ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. It's the equivalent of shouting online, and it's very hard to read.

One final thought: "papers" do NOT affect the dog's personality nor the dog's life with you, if you're solely looking for a companion. The only reason a dog would truly need registration papers is for breeding. Even for competition, you can get an ILP number through AKC, USA/DVG will allow mixed breeds to compete in Schutzhund, and USDAA and NADAC allow mixed breeds to compete in Agility.

Therefore, the question is "Why are registration papers so important to you?" And were I a breeder, this question would be a "must answer."

Hell yes, there has been so many Rotties with ton of health problems. If you have a healthy pet you can't ask for anything else. If you have two healthy Rotties just imagine the litter they would produce:D. Anyway, AKC registration is just to keep up with litters so there won't be any inter breeding going on. There are other registration organization that provide these services for a lot less than AKC, I'm talking like $6.00. Health is the most important factor in any animal not registration papers.:D . When you get registration papers where do they go, in the file cabinate or in the dresser drawer. Those papers are hiden for six months sometimes longer, depending on how often you breed. All they are good for bosting and bragging. If anyone is thinking of breeding ask for all health records, which consist of hip, elbow, eye, heart certs and up to date shot records. A heathy Rotty is a happy Rottie. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

what makes no sense to you is precaution for me

i dont understand why is it that people just dont realize that WHAT WORKS FOR YOU DOESNT WORK OR APPEAL TO ME everyone in this world is different and choose to do things on their own in a different way that is what makes us who we are

AS I SAID BEFORE I DONT WANT TO GET A DOG FROM A RESCUE AND I DONT WANT A SHELTER DOG because i watched in fear of how my best friend daughter got mauled to death by a rotti that she adopted from a rescue cause they told her the dog was ready to be adopted and the temperament was good see no one can ganurantee you anything but as i seen myself helping her get the dog off her child that wasnt a pretty site and i risked my life as well

so for me to go to a RESCUE OR SHELTER is a hell no i dont care if a dog needs to be rescued im not doing it for my own reasons and whoever doesnt like that than that is do dame bad i dont care people on this form have some nerves trying to tell other how and what to do when they are searching for something that they want

i have to take care of this rotti not you or anyone else and im not risking the fact or chance for one of my children's lives its not going to happen yeah anything can happen but im not taking no chance with a rescue or a shelter

this happens because people who get puppies dont want to raise them and let them go as dogs and you want me to go in and take a rescue dog i dont think so just because you have a rescue dog that is great and i am happy for you but due to my tragic events in my life losing my best friends daughter my god-daughter and my rocket of cancer

yes i want to see papers i want to see documentation of health records i want to see it all because a good and responsible breeder doesnt mind if i ask questions or information on the sir or dam he doesnt mind if i ask about the history or anything else that i feel i need to ask in regards to this pup that i am purchasing

a real breeder will produce documentation he will not get upset or agigated if i asked if his sir or dam has bitten somone or has been vicious you need to realize that these dogs get very huge and a bit from a huge dog to a little children who cant defend themselve is very very vital

i dont know if you heard of acs but when you endanger a child that happens acs comes and take your children so if seem a little precautious well then i have alot of reason to a rescue just rescue the animals i have worked their before and seen what they do so i dont care what you say

just because were online you have no idea of what i know or how much i know about anything so dont come sending me messages about what i need to do and why papers are so important because i have children that i need to take care of that is why papers is so important it give me a background of how the breeders take pride in their dogs how they maintain them if you have a breeder who says yeah the dogs are in a good bill of health show me some paperwork and i then go and research for myself

so if you dont understand where i am coming from then im sorry their is nothing more that i can say but to let me look for what i am looking for and stop being so dame critical of what other people expectations are

things are done for reasons and this is my reason i cant be ganuranteed anything but if i feel comfortable in purchasing this pup then i will buy if i dont i want some more documentation and that is just that

and as far as me typing caps who care dont read it but you replied so it didnt make it difficult for you to read at all now did it and as far as me going out of my state to look for rotties it doesnt matter where i go and we did correspond threw regular mail and email we produce pictures and so on and what have you and i got my money back they sold the pup and didnt want to tell me so i got my money back yesterday

so it doesnt matter im going to do what i feel is best for me cause this pup has to live in my home not yours

Wow... I normally stay out of this...

rotties29,

You came here and asked a question, you got reasonable responses... no one telling you what's the perfect answer. They were just giving suggestions.

By your own admission you have thrown away good money, so obviously your own searching isn't doing so well...

There are also some expert breeders on this board whom we all listen to and trust so you don't need to tell us what a good breeder is... obviously you need to research who you deal with before you even begin to wonder about the 'papers' on a dog...

If you don't want opinions and advice, don't come to an open discussion board.

But in the future, if you have a problem and honestly need help and advice then I hope you are willing to listen and accept it, not put down the one's you came to...

Good luck

Kathy

Rotties29,

You might want to check the attitude at the door. There are many reputable breeders on this forum who are very willing to help people out, including pointing them to promising litters. However, after the colorful display, or is that display of true colors, which you just put on, I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone of repute who has time for immature antics such as yours.
