Born Without Tail

Has anyone seen or heard of a rottweiler puppy born without a tail? And anywhere to find info on this? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks Ryan

Yes…and some even bred for the tailless dogs. Do a search in the archives…it has been discussed here some times.

Anyone find any info on this, I would assume that the rottie would not be full blood then, right?

Wrong. Why the heck would you assume that? :(

There are some lines that throw short tails stubby tails and no tails. Have been throughout the history of the breed

Any breed can throw tailless dogs, it's a vertebral-column mutation. In some breeds, that mutation is selectively bred for, but even breeds selectively bred for taillessness can throw tailed dogs, just as tailed breeds can throw tailless dogs. A tail or lack thereof is no indication of an animal's purebred status, it's a mutation which can occur in any breed (and almost any species, for that matter).

When puppies tails are docked, they do lose a little blood but I think it would be safe to say they are still as "Full" as the few that mother nature docks.;)
