GSD + tan "hunting dog" = black and tan????

hello all,

another question about my stray rescue pups.

One out of the litter of 7 was a black and tan pup. Mom is a tan dog (with a white blaze and white socks)-- might have APBT in her, but who really knows as she is a stray. I know *one* of the litter's dads was a GSD. When we took the puppies out to be adopted, someone said the black and tan could have also been fathered by the GSD-- because that is how you "get" a black and tan dog: GSD (coloring) + a tan "hunting dog" type. Has anyone heard of this before?

I'm just asking because I'm curious about who this kid's dad might have been-- is it possible she had the GSD as the dad. Or did her dad have to be a black and tan himself?
