Tired of this BS...L

So my dad just moved to a new place and I'm going to see him in a couple hours. He moved from an apartment to some trailer park for old people. Don't ask me... I don't get it either. Whenever I used to go see him at the apartment I would take my girls and always got compliments on how well behaved they were. The manager of the apartment didn't know much about dogs and actually mistook them for Pitbulls, but was completely ok with them being there. Especially after about a ten minute conversation about them and her seeing how well they behaved. They sat there the entire time being pet by her grandchildren. So now with this new place he is moving to I asked him to make sure it was going to be ok to bring them and his response was, "No, I don't think they want those kind of dogs here..." Really!? So they don't want well behaved non-aggressive dogs there? They don't want dogs that do what they are told when they are told? Meanwhile I could here some yappy little ankle biter barking in the background. I'm tired of people crossing the streets when I'm walking the dog to avoid walking by a rottweiler. I'm tired of not being allowed to take them certain places that allow other dogs just because they are Rottweilers. I've even been inside a Petsmart waiting in line at the cash register and had people stand back five feet from Abby. Never mind that she was politely sitting right next to me completely ignoring them. I just don't get people. Is this ever going to stop?

-End Rant

Know that feeling, tired of hearing about great places people bring their dogs only to be told Brook won't be allowed in because she's a 'restricted breed' in Ireland, tired of trying to find good places to walk her where she doesn't need to be muzzled and kept on a 2m leash, how do you excerise a Rottie properly on 2m leash???

Re: Tired of this BS...L

I feel your pain but ........... I do have SOME other views . OK Dad moving into a trailer park ain't all that bad . I happen to live in one and think that it is GREAT ! Some things I do not like but it is what it is . I couldn't afford a house the size of the mobile I have if it were on a foundation . I have the freedom to do as I please with the place . It is not like renting if I feel like I want to change something I can with out having to ask . I know that , that isn't part of your rant nor am I trying to make trouble . But you did say you didn't understand why he would move into one . But that is a major reason for someone to like the idea of having a mobile . A mobile home is your home to do as you wish . LMAO And I own one of two Rottweiler's in here . Our policy is NO dogs of any breed larger then 20 pounds . But like most things that is up to the manager . The reason I am allowed a Rottweiler is because of who I am in the manager's eye's . Caring and loving owner that puts time and effort into my dogs . At one point we wanted a second dog and we were given a letter stating that we do live here this is the policy but ....... we will allow a pit bull in the park if it is owned by Billy and Dana . We took the Rat dog because my wife would have an easier time walking her and Joey is MINE .

Now I do have to admit that I DO like when people cross the street when they see me and Joey coming . I get a kick out of it . Just the other day my wife took " the rat " to play group . Joey is much to large to join in that group so I decided that I would walk him on my own while they did their thing .

Now you have to understand the neighborhood I was walking in . Very poor is an understatement . And again I am not picking on anyone . Just wanting to share . Well on our walk we( Joey and I ) had AT LEAST 3 offers to fight him . At that point all I could ask was " "What are you related to that to that foot ball player !? DUMB people ! " Two people thought I was with the sheriff's office because I was wearing a brown jacket ( didn't think that part through did I LOL ) And 5 people asked " Is that a Rottweiler ? " What did they all have in common ? NO ONE would get close to us .

We also encounter the same thing when we walk the " pricey " neighborhoods . Only thing that changes in those neighborhoods are people are stand offish unless they understand dogs . So no matter what neighborhood you are in people tend to stay back . Me being the person I am I prefer people I don't know stay back from me with or with out my dog .

Now for another deal . I am almost laughing to hard to write and make this all make sense . I have an Uncle up here that REFUSES to visit me because of Joey . And asks me all the time why I don't stop by his house to see him . And I tell him all the time I do walk past your house at least 4 - 5 times a week . But I have Joey with me is it ok that I stop . He is so scared of Joey he says NO ! I have a hard time with that because he had a GSD when I was small kid that bit me to the point I needed to go to the hospital for stitches . ALL MY FAULT I GOT BIT ! And even at 6 I was able to tell everyone that I got bit because I went to take his bone away so I could play with him . I can not understand trusting a GSD but not a Rottweiler !?

Re: Tired of this BS...L

Most people are apprehensive where I live too, and because of my Fostering addiction, I actually prefer people cross the street! It is funny though, I Fostered an English Bully that people would RUN up to pet, and he was MUCH more prone to snap than the Rotties. Where I live, people constantly have their dogs off leash in very PUBLIC places, and they do not have recall control. I have become uninhibited to scare someone's BOUNDING, LARGE Labradoodle away, because IMHO, if a dog would be provoked to attack, that would be an IDEAL scenario. I like people who are afraid, or have out-of-control dogs to STAY AWAY, but we do greet the regular dog walkers we see frequently, and MANY of my neighborhood's residents are willing to help with the socialization of one of my Fosters. As for total strangers, stay away or PLEASE ASK if you can approach my pooch, so I can give you proper instructions on how to do so...
As for the Trailer Park thing, well, not that everyone in a trailer is an awful person, but just think of a BUNCH of bad dog owners running around with 80- 250 pound untrained ANYTHINGs... Trailers are too close together, and the yards are not usually fenced in. But I CANNOT IMAGINE why you cannot visit with your pooch... Now I see that you live in AZ though. They have a lot of problems with Dog Fighting... Denver used to be as bad if not worse. We still have the fighting, just not as noticeable.

Re: Tired of this BS...L

its so frustrating when youre on the 'enlightened' side of things, and ignorant ppl who know nothing get to make the rules. Luckily here in indiana, we dont have any BSL going on. My gf called me the other day and said, youre gonna be mad about what i just read in the paper... and like 2 min before that i was talking to her about bsl, my heart sunk i thought she was gonna tell me our city had banned rotties or something, but she was telling me that the mayor is closing our animal shelter, because it doesnt fit the budget anymore....

which angers me, but is a different topic, and at least isnt as bad as what i thougth she was gonna say.

Anyway, good luck with the trailer park thing. maybe you can just bring your rotties anyway. they might not see you, or if they do see you, just reason with them and point out that theyre obviously not being destructive or endangering anyone, and that you have complete control.

Re: Tired of this BS...L

I feel your pain!

A few years back I was switching home owners insurence. When I told them I had 4 dogs they were ok with it. When they found out one was a Boxer / Rott mix we had to label as a mixed breed unknown.

I just renewed my policy last month and my agent asked if I still had my mixed unknown dog and we both chuckled. I said no but I am thinking of getting a pure Rott. She told me now that the policy was written it is not an issue, she just cannot write a new policy for anyone who owns one of the 4 breeds. I am sure you can guess all four.

When I asked why that is, she explained not everyone is loving to these breeds and gives them a bad wrap.

I understand both sides of it. After all if my wife is walking down the street with just our Rott I would want people to cross the street also. If it was me I would not care.
