BSL in Alberta

Most people are unaware of what BSL is here in Alberta. That's a BIG problem all in it itself. People that do know some of what it means don't fully know what it mens. BSL will effect every dog owner of a large breed eventually, and once it's in.........trouble isn't far behind. I own a Rottie and I've lived with them for 15 years now, and not once have I ever had a problem, nor have any friends or family that have them. We as humans, like dogs, are ALL a product of our upbringing!!! Alot of the bad stuff happens as a result of poor ownership and bad breeding. How many people stop and learn about the breed BEFORE they buy?? Not many. Also, how many people check out where the dog came from, and actually care? Not many AGAIN !!! You must know your breed, and research your breeder to ensure that you've choosen the right breed, and the right dog. When a dog attacks someone or something the owner needs to be held accountable for the actions of the dog, and maybe that will make people think more about the choices they make when buying a dog.

Re: BSL in Alberta

Boy did I learn about BSL your way when we heard we might get posted to Wainwright, which DOES have BSL laws which would require one to muzzle their rottie in public...ACK! Glad we don't live there....(for many reasons beside BSL )

When people ask questions about bear I always mention how careful I am with him because I do fear BSL, so telling people about it, one person at a time is my plan of attack.

There is also an organisation in Canada called the Dog Legislation Council of Canada, they have been very active back east with the whole Ontario BSL issue and some issues in New Brunswick...They tend to set up booths at pet related trade shows where they can. Not sure how active they are this side of Ontario tho.
