I had once posted some info here about my efforts to influence the California legislature with regards to insurance discrimination. Here is an update.
I have found two state legislators on the committees that handle insurance issues; one is on the Senate committee and the other is on the Assembly committee. They have requested to remain anonymous until actual bills are introduced.
The bills would make it illegal for insurance companies to discriminate with homeowner's or renter's insurance in the state of California based on the breed of dog you own. Focus would be placed on dogs labeled "dangerous" because of a bite history. I believe this is fair and this has been my goal from the beginning.
At this point, I don't know if the bills will be introduced this year or not. Probably not. This is going to create quite a stir and the Republican lawmakers are going to have a stroke. There is no way our current governator would sign the bill because he is in the pocket of the insurance companies and a veto override would require the cooperation of a few Republicans and that is just not going to happen.
So, patience is going to have to be a virtue I suppose. I'm crossing my fingers that the next gov is a Dem.
