BSL in Michigan

Does anyone know who works with BSL in Michigan, or rather against it? I read in our local paper that one of the first things our new city commissioner wants to do is institute BSL. I would like to make sure we get out ahead of this dingbat. I can't imagine anything like that would actually garner support in my town, but I want to make sure people know about it. I wrote the commissioner for additional information, but he has not written me back.

Here is a link to the article I am referring to: Royal Oak discusses banning breeds of dogs

Not only is this man suggesting BSL is good, he is citing examples of area towns that not only banned new registrations, but also forced current owners to get rid of their dogs. I will move before I let someone to tell me what kind of dog I can have in my backyard. They can deal with my house. It's not worth anything anyway!!!!

Re: BSL in Michigan

Nicole - Google BSL and you'll find tons of information on it. I'm not sure there is any one group in any state that fights it - but I could be wrong. I think it's just the compilation of EVERYONE who wants to fight it writing letters, emailing and making calls. Good luck! I can't believe they want to try to make current owners get rid of their pets. BSL is such a crime! Keep us posted.

Re: BSL in Michigan

Another ignorant A-HOLE in office!!! With the amount of job losses, foreclosures, etc in the metro Detroit area this dips**t decides to make this his first priority as a newly elected mayor... Next he'll go after the sportbike crowd that pumps thousands of dollars into that city every Thursday night, because they can go really fast and there's no need for that kind of speed..

Re: BSL in Michigan

I grew up in Royal Oak, Mom still lives there. Her neighbor has a beautiful sweet pitbull that goes everywhere with her, and mom gives here treats over the fence everyday in the summer. I couldn't imagine being told I could no longer own my dog because of the breed.
I thank god I live in a rural area now and not dealing with the uppity city politics of R.O
