| Kenmore City Council bans Rotts Apr 25 2008 10:37AM Associated Press Kenmare, N.D. (AP) Kenmare's mayor says he expects opposition at the next City Council meeting to a new ordinance that bans some dog breeds. The Kenmare City Council voted April 14th to ban American Staffordshire terriers, Rottweilers and Doberman pinschers in the town of about 1,000. People who have those breeds have 10 days to remove them. Mayor Roger Ness says the ordinance affects only a few dogs in Kenmare, but opponents have been vocal and he expects them to be at the next council meeting in May. Ness says no one has been bitten by a vicious dog, but he wants to make sure that does not change. He says residents feel threatened by dogs that have come into the city in the last couple of months. Kenmare had banned pit bulls earlier. Ness said people were licensing dogs under other breed names the city felt were very similar to pit bulls. The new ordinance adds American Staffordshire terriers, Rottweilers, Doberman pinschers and any mixture of those breeds. Violators could be fined at least $100. Kenmare City Council votes to ban some dog breeds | KXNet.com North Dakota News The government should not be able to tell us what breeds we can and can not have. We need to stop this stuff before it is too late. I don't want to have to find new homes for my girls. So sad that they outlaw these breeds without really getting to know them. | Re: Kenmore City Council bans Rotts Quote:
Back in 2004 I was doing some political campaigning and drove up to a house that had a big Rottie sitting by the side door with no one around. He had such a calm demeanor about him, but I was unsure whether or not to exit my car. After all he was a strange dog. I decided to back out. He continued to stay by the side door. So I backed up to where the steps went to the front porch, got out of my car, nonchalantly walked up to the front door and left the brochures. When I turned around there he was standing there just looking at me. I don't think he would have hurt a flea. I just walked past him to my car and I was on my way. I have been around a lot more vicious little dogs than any of the breeds that are targeted for breed specific legislation. |

| Re: Kenmore City Council bans Rotts it seems that people are aiming to an anti dog law. it is sad that they have taken this kind of extreme measurements against a certain type of breed. if this continues when will things be too far? n to what extend? sad, sad days we face infront of us if people decided not to make a difference. |
