Re: Don't want my boy to travel with a muzzle!!

"Only domesticated dogs and cats are allowed (Stafforshire terriers, mastiffs, tosas and pittbulls are not accepted)."

This was taken from their website. On their entire website it says NOTHING about muzzleing dogs. I would throw a FIT!!! Make sure you talk to the highest in charge; don't be satisfied by the people who answer phones.

Re: Don't want my boy to travel with a muzzle!!

Here's the link, and it would apply to ANY airline flying into France, it looks like. I would contact the IATA directly and make sure that this is the current info. If it is, I don't frankly think you will get anywhere fighting with the IATA in the short term, with or without a lawyer.

https://www.iatatravelcentre.com/pag...s/FR/rules.htm

Nishasmom-- that AirFrance info from TripAdvisor is not current/correct/complete, I don't think. The link below is from the AF website, and says Rotties cannot travel on Air France AT ALL. That explains why in the IATA link above, it says Rotties can NOW travel if muzzled and in the proper crate.

To me, it still isn't clear that these are FRENCH rules versus Air France rules. The line is, "Rottweilers may now be imported loaded in a rigid plastic container, wearing a muzzle and conforming to Air France rules;"

If it was such that my dog had to be muzzled to fly into France, I would fly into the closest country that did not require the muzzle and drive the rest of the way in.

You may have an out on your ticket if the muzzle rule is not on their website and they took your dog's reservation without advising you of the restriction.

Anything that restricts your dog's breathing is a major hazard when flying and I ABSOLUTELY, under no circumstances whatsoever would do this.

Re: Don't want my boy to travel with a muzzle!!

You are right, it does refer to Air France, BUT the OP is not flying Air France, and is still being told that they are requiring a muzzle pursuant to IATA regs.

Flying into another country and driving into France sounds like a good option to me.

Your right; my link wasn't as complete. After reading Observers quote, I don't think there is a way around the muzzle. . So unfair!

Did you pay for your ticket w/a credit card, or through a travel agency, or online? If so - you have options you can exercise. If I were you, I would cancel the booking fly into another country like Austria, Germany, or Switzerland - they will not stipulate a muzzle, with the associated risks.

Rent a car and have a nice drive to your destination in France. Just be sure your rabies is less than a year old, and it is not the first rabies shot. Lufthansa is another good airline.

Good luck,

As would I! Though if the country is implementing the law, I wonder if other countries boarding have similar laws..?

Re: Don't want my boy to travel with a muzzle!!

Thank you for everybody else! It really looks like I might have to fly to another country...thats crazy!!! I'm still going to try to contact the IATA and see if they would work with me somehow....
I really dont want the muzzle to be an option, I'd probably be sick and crying the whole way through Paris!

And before we get too carried away, IATA is the International Association of Travel Agents, NOT a government agency of any country!

So what do you mean RottsNScotts? What do you advise me to do, they are the ones who write that TIM documents that states the requirement of the muzzle, I do have to try to fight them, dont you think?

Good luck in France, you should really visit Limoges and Bordeaux.
Ill think about the sabotage muzzle ;)
Thanks for the advice of the cities to visit. I was actually born and raised in the south of France, 1hr from Bordeaux and you're right those are beautiful cities

I was thinking you get a note from a vet stating in may put his life in danger ect. You could say he has some medical reason that he can't wear a muzzle. I don't know if it would work, but you may try it.

So, if you fight them how much will that cost: time, money, frustration, etc. compared to just booking a flight with a different carrier

Re: Don't want my boy to travel with a muzzle!!

Please double check the french laws. As far as I know Rottweilers must always be muzzled and leashed when in public. Plus other restrictions.

for starters. BSL - France.
