Re: Infuriating!!!!! just a random observation about the insurance company's state of mind... since when does the common thug with a "dangerous" dog go stay at a RESORT and bring their dog with them. Who they are really protecting are the ignorant people with untrained small breed dogs that run up to attack your leashed an trained "dangerous" rottweiler.

Re: Infuriating!!!!! I too have been thru this numerous times as I have moved and in between buying and selling homes, needed an apartment. didn't happen. People are so ignorant. I have outright told the person on the other end of the phone, exactly that. As for traveling, I always travel with Porsha. Dog friendly hotels, although not 5 star, is where we stay. As long as she is with me, that's all that matters. Red Roof Inn, no questions asked!!!!!! I was also lucky last summer when i moved back to NJ and we rented a condo in a "dog friendly" community. There were a few Rotties, chows, shepherds, etc...................

Re: Infuriating!!!!! i always have a minimum of four rottees on my farm. i love my dogs and all rottees as a matter of fact, i have owned rottees all my life. it is true that problems are inevitable if they are owned by the wrong type of individuals. it is interesting to note that in the ad there was a man and a german shephard. when i was 8 yr old, i had to ride my bike past a neighbour who had a german shephard that always laid on their front step facing the road. i knew it was preying on me, i felt it, and i was very scared to ride my bike past there to go to school. i told my parents and they called the owners and explained the situation. the owners said that the dog has never hurt anyone let alone a child. so, off to school on my bike still feeling scared, then one morning i rode past the house the dog ran out and grabbed my leg, pulled me off my bike, and i was just screaming. i still have the scar on the back of my calf to this day. that was 30 yr. ago. btw even after that incident the neighbours only kept the dog tied up for about a week, then it was back sitting on the step in the front yard again. any dog can be vicious, however, it is the owners that should be questioned as well as strict laws in order for the undesireable pet owners to adhere to and not just single out one breed of dog. that is so maddening.

Re: Infuriating!!!!! [quote=Kawakaze;806831]nlavett, ill clarify what im saying. The hotel will probably loose business if people know they are big dogs staying there. QUOTE] Kawakaze, the hotel is not discriminating against "big dogs". As I stated in my original post, the online advertisement shows a man and his gsd. I am not disagreeing with your point that uneducated people may be afraid of our breed. All I am saying is that being vocal is one of our only recourses to take. I simply refuse to sit back and go , "oh well, I'll just work with my dog and hope the rest of the world gets better with/about this."

Re: Infuriating!!!!! Paiton, What a terrible experience for you as a child. Big congrats though on being strong enough not to let that affect your perception about all dogs. My controller at work was also bitten by a gsd. She was opening a sliding glass door next to the dog while it was eating and inadvertently (sp?) bumped him. He latched onto her thigh and the owners had to get him off. She has scars to this day as well. Like you though, she realized it was one dog, one set of owners...not a whole breed. She absolutely adores our Xasha. Always asking about her and buying her treats for getting one month older!
