does any one UK law relating to muzzles in public?

hello

just wondering - somebody asked me if my dog should be muzzled in public as it is a rottweiler?

she has NO signs of aggression towards dogs or humans and is loved by all of the other dog walkers at the park ( a big group of us meet up so she can run around with the other dogs she is the only rott but she is def the softest most docile of the lot despite being one of the youngest!!!!)

i was under the impression that the law required an aggressive dog to be muzzled i didn't think it was breed specific? I don't want to muzzle her as i think people presume a muzzled dog is aggressive and she isn't!

thanks in advance for your advice

There is NO law in the UK requiring a rottie to be muzzled, so you can relax. If you had agression issues and you were concerned that would be a different story. I believe under certain circumstances (with an aggressive dog and a series of complaints I imagine) the courts could order the dog be muzzled in public, but definately no requirement otherwise

Defra, UK - Animal health and welfare - Animal Welfare - The Control of Dogs

This is a useful and concise summary of the present applicable law in Great Britain.

this could be a topic starter,i once read that walking more than one rottie in germany they have to be muzzled ,would be interested if this is true or does it extend to a single rottie!
