A good plug

Check this out. Rottweiler eye dog. 29 May 2007. ABC Perth. (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) We all need to promote our breed in a positive light and show the many publicly accepted disapplines. I don't mean to bash Schutzhund, but to the naive public.........it can send the wrong message.

Re: A good plug

Very few "naive" public have ever even seen a Schutzhund trial or training as they are not generally aware of them. Secondly, when the general public does have an opportunity to come in contact with Sch - I guess I should quantify that by saying at least the clubs and people I have been involved with! - the people involved in it go to great lengths to explain the activity and standards for it and to allow people to meet the dogs and people involved.

I find the folks that usually have a misunderstanding of the sport have not made any attempt to look into it or have been around people who are bad examples of who is involved! Of course, we could find "bad" examples of people involved in anything!

True most people that come watch actual testing have a fairly good grasp of the concept. I'm more worried about Joe and Jane Smith and thier family that happen to pass by a demonstration but on by a club or even law enforcement and their reactions. Then there's public forums such as "youtube". Took me a while to find one video that I had seen but check this out. YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. The beginnning is impressive but the end yet still impressive to the working dog fan/club but the rest of the world. Videos like these only give fuel to the BSL groups. It's unfortunate that we may have to publicly sensor our dogs' accomplishments
