| Beebe, Arkansas How much longer before they come knocking on our doors for our dogs? This is just wrong! ![]() City Searching For Unregistered Pit Bulls Pit bulls in Beebe are on their way out. A new pit bull ban is taking effect and owners are given notice that they have seven days to remove their dog or the city pound will be paying them a visit. The enforcement of the ban is a relief to those who've complained about being afraid to walk down their own street. Beebe is a small town that's believed to have more than 100 pit bulls. Just driving around Beebe, THV caught on tape two pit bulls that were not in a fenced in yard. Both owners had them chained to a pole in the yard. That's against the law for any dog, much less a pit bull. Beebe resident Jessica Lee’s family has a pit bull named Champ they keep chained in the yard. Lee is against the pit bull ban. "My 7-year-old niece will come out here and play with this dog but she's scared of a stray that walks up and down the street," said Lee. Champ's days are numbered now that the city's pit bull ban is in effect. "Seven days. He's got seven days left and I think it would be a shame if they put that dog to sleep," said Lee. If Jessica can't find Champ a place to live in the county, the pound will pick up the family pit. Beebe Police Chief Wayne Ballew explained, "The dog at that time is taken and impounded at the dog pound and hopefully we can find somebody at that time who is out in the country and can take the dog.” If not, Champ will be euthanized. Police say other pit bulls in Beebe have shown aggression, and pedestrians have been attacked. While the ban is putting fears to rest, pit bull owners are facing the consequences. Before the new law, existing pit bull owners were given the chance to register their dogs with the city, so they can keep them. Only 11 people registered. But none of them has yet to comply with a new set of guidelines for those few pit bulls that would be allowed. Those 11 pit bull owners have three more weeks to comply with the new law. http://www.todaysthv.com/news/news.aspx?storyid=52079

| Re: Beebe, Arkansas For this being a small town, they have a TON of dogs of all breeds. I am on a mailing list for a lady that pulls dogs out of the shelter there and i get about 1 a week of 3 or more dogs in a Transport. I am willing to bet that the next few weeks there will be a need to transport a few pits from there to rescue.
