Its starting up in MA I wanted to let everyone know the Mass. lawmakers are targetting Pitbulls now, but our Rotties are probably on the list. For any Mass residences, there's a link there you can write your state reps. Lawmakers Mull Pit Bull Ban - News Story - WCVB Boston I'm all for owners being held accountable, not the dogs. Blame the deed, not the breed. Jeff T

Re: Its starting up in MA I don't think banning any dog will solve the problem. They need to look at the people who own the dogs. Okay they ban Pits then Rotts. What breed is next. Pretty soon the only dogs you will be able to have is little dogs. YES they bite too. They just go unreported. Dogs that bite are not the problem it is the people who raise them. Why don't they try and ban the people from owning any type of breed who raise dogs to be aggressive.

Re: Its starting up in MA They should do something about the teen boys who "own" the pits used for fighting..If you wrap a heavy chain around any dog's neck and then padlock it because it looks cool to your friends, I feel the same punishment should be given..How long would these idiots last with that weight hanging off of them..Of course the poor dog gets mean..The only time they get rewarded and a "good job" is when they rip another dog to pieces. I'm going to sign every petition I can because I don't want to lose my Rotties just because of stupid laws..I'll dye them grey and say they are mutts if I have too . I think the only dogs that should be affected are ones that already have a bite history (depending on incident, reasons, etc)..It should not affect the family pet that doesn't bother anybody or the show dog that travels around the country.

Re: Its starting up in MA Well, they didn't learn too much from the history of wars between people... Of course it is stupid to ban complete breeds; that goes without saying. I have watched the same process happening in Germany, where Rottweilers are now on "list 2", meaning dog is being tested, but owner needs to do an exam as well. That could be right, if it wasn't for the fact that the test the dog needs to do is insane (example of part of test: man = hiding behind a tree. RW walks by, man jumps from behind the tree, heavily screaming towards the dog. If the dog so much as blinks an eye he is "not reliable". Say what So, the other way around, *you* are walking in the wood and that man comes from behind a tree and scares the hell out of you with his screaming; what would you do? Exactly.) At the same time, the test the owner needs to do is BS (not demanding enough/too easy to pass), and it is the owner that is the problem, not the dog.In Germany they passed this law with not exactly academically sound statistical proof about the bite-incidents (but what do you expect from politicians, right? The can't even spell the words academically sound, let alone understand what it means ). Interest groups in Germany are now preparing to go to court to fight this legislation. But what remains is: people, especially politicians, like to keep it simple: it's always one group that needs to be completely banned/attacked. We've seen that happening in wars, we're seeing it with dogs now, we'll see it everywhere. And to think that "they" say that what distinguishes us from "animals" is that "we have a brain". Yeah, sure. Some of us, yes. But to apply that to our whole group ... ![]()

| Re: Its starting up in MA Michael Graham had this to say on his radio show about Pit Bulls. And, although our Rottweilers may be safe at the moment, they could be targeted just as easily after a couple bite incidents. The Natural Truth: Bad Dog! Bad Dog! The same nanny-state nuisances who want to take away your cigarettes, your cell phones and your tasty trans-fat-laden snacks have now turned their sights on your family pet. Their plan? Banning pit bulls. It is very possible that Boston police officers may soon be kicking in your doors and rounding up your dogs. And if you think I'm exaggerating, read it for yourself. Their "argument," for lack of a better term, is that some pit bulls bite people. It's true. So do some Labrador retrievers, but nobody's talking about banning them. Rottweilers are at least as dangerous as pit bulls, but the government stooges say they're OK. For the moment. Every day, somebody is bitten by a dog, a cat, a hamster and an unlicensed child, and in 99% of the cases we understand that the responsible party isn't the pet, but the alleged adult in charge of the animal. How does banning the pit bull make sense? It makes sense once you buy into the idea that what kind of dog you have--or cookie or cell phone, for that matter--is your neighbor's business. We used to believe that what you had wasn't as important as what you DO with what you have (Do I care that you killed your wife with a baseball bat instead of a gun?). Those days are gone. We're back to the stupid argument made by 2nd Amendment opponents that the problem is the thing, not the person. The fact is, there's nothing wrong with pit bulls. But there can be a LOT wrong with pit bull owners. The other, more disturbing argument the ban-the-bulls folks make is that simply being a member of the wrong group (the "pit bull" kind of dog) makes you inherently too dangerous. They say that, since pit bulls are involved in an inordinate number of dog-on-human attacks, and since these attacks can be attributed to the work these creatures were bred to do hundreds of years ago, that we are justified in judging ALL the members of this group as unacceptable. Look at American crime statistics and think about that argument for awhile, and you'll find yourself in a very disturbing--and unacceptable--place.
