| Corinth bans vicious dogs (Kentucky) Another irresponsible owner puts everyone in jeopardy! Corinth bans vicious dogs By Rebecca Russo, Editorial Assistant Vicious dogs aren't welcome in Corinth. An ordinance banning vicious dogs and prohibiting dogs from running loose was heard at the Corinth City Commission meeting Sept. 5. The ordinance is modeled after one enacted by Williamstown on Sept. 21, 2004, that prohibits the keeping of wild, exotic, dangerous or vicious animals, keeping vicious or dangerous dogs, dog fighting and dogs running at large. "We felt like we had to do something with the complaints we've been getting," said Corinth Mayor Billy Hill. The commission has fielded complaints previously about dogs running at large and had discussed passing an ordinance, but after two pit bulls killed a cat owned by Marvin and Ann Beach on Aug. 8, they moved forward with the legislation. The Beaches had their cat, Frisky, tied outside on the day she was killed because she kept carrying her five kittens away from the house, said Beach. The kittens were lying in an enclosed pet carrier with Frisky lying on top when the dogs came into the backyard and attacked the cat. "Frisky didn't have a fighting chance," said Beach. "I talked to the owner on the day the cat was killed but he assured me they weren't his dogs," said Beach. "I know better. I've seen them on his porch," he added. Grant County Sheriff Chuck Dills drew up a criminal summons against the owner of the dogs, James Rose, on Sept. 11 for violating the county's ordinance, Section 90.02, by allowing his dogs to run at large. Rose, who also lives on Old Corinth-Owenton Road, is scheduled to appear in district court at 9 a.m. on Sept. 25. The Beaches wrapped the cat in a blanket and buried her in their backyard. They have since given the kittens away. "My nerves are still on edge since it happened," said Ann Beach. "I'm still afraid to go very far from my door." Barry and Diane Hensley, who live near the Rose house, are fearful of the dogs, as well as speeding cars on Old Corinth-Owenton Road, because they have an autistic child, Trevor, who enjoys playing in the yard. "My child doesn't always respond to voice commands and now I feel like I'm living in Dodge City," said Barry Hensley. Marvin Beach said he was encouraged that the summons was issued but wouldn't be comfortable until the dogs were gone. "I've seen one of the pit bulls out on the Rose's porch when I go down to the post office," said Beach, "but they've not been back down to our house."
