BSL Louisville, KY update

okay and it just got worst... hearing they are door to door soon checking shots/housing/shelter for the dogs/tags/ licenses, etc. If any violation they are taking the dogs.

this is disturbing, just the fact that Blitz (who now is an inside dog) is getting identified as a "vicious dog" because of breed when he is indoors and has never caused any problems.

I am pretty mad right now. Please let a lawmaker in favor of punishing bad owners and not the breed come to our rescue. it was not even rotties that started this mess it was a couple bad pits!!!!!!

Another disturbing fact is that I am not even looking down on pits, I know a few nice pits. I am only imagining how many dogs will be put down - VERY GOOD DOGS at that because of them taking them to the pound and not being able or being willing to place Pits/Rotties. This is a sad day for us that take responsibility for our pets and have raised them friendly.

Instead of punishing the innocent dogs involved why dont they go after the ignorant owners that caused this incident instead?

I know they have in mind that they are only trying to ensure this does not happen again, but the sad fact is, you think someone who does mistreat a dog in such a manner is going to willfully let them inspect the premisis with the dog there?

What about a search warrant? In order to check my house for 1) they would have to come indoors since he is an indoor pet. 2) they better have a search warrant if they come in when I am home.

no they wont find anything wrong, but if I am the only one to stand up to them if not for me, but for our privacy as dog owners, and I have to take the fine, so be it. it is far more than offending for myself.

If I am wrong please forgive me. As I said I have all shot records and etc. But that is beside the point.
The point is the government is punishing innocent parties for the ignorant acts of others.

Your thoughts? Sorry so long, and I could vent a lot more than this but I dont want to fill up the board

ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!

How are they determining which houses to go to??? Are they checking every house in the city? Are they going by registration? Neighboor tattling?? I think you are right. Anywhich way it is an invasion of privicy.

Re: BSL Louisville, KY update

Not sure, but I know I will definately be looking into ways to fight this, I'd rather "go down with a fight" then to sit and take it.

http://www.wlky.com/news/5386078/detail.html

that is one of the news articles that started this - not one rottie complaint in that...

and yeah that is how I feel as well...

I just dont know if I am over-reating because of the love I have for the breed, or if i should be this p..... eh hem... mad

Re: BSL Louisville, KY update

Silly thought..... I was reading about how they did dog bite stats, ok I wish I remembered the web site . . . But one of the things that came out is there is no way to 100% prove a breed of dog, even with DNA. OK so if you cross a black and tan coon hound with a mastiff and it had a tail accident??????

OK serious thought. If Louisville does enact door to door search to enforce their BSL, I wonder how long it will take for a challenge (where is spell check when you need it) to reach th eSupreme Court???

Re: BSL Louisville, KY update

If they do go door to door, do not let them in your house unless they do infact have a warrent. Make sure it is a real warrent. They need to have reasonable cause to search your house.
You are very correct that BSL doesn't make any sense. It doesn't make any sense and that is the most frustrating part of it. I have gone to Sacramento three times trying to fight our own BSL. It was amazing the complete lack of common sense, logic, or something. It was like talking to aliens about the absurdity of the BSL. These people have preconcieved notions and nothing is going to get them to change their minds.
The Animal Rights groups are behind this. They don't want any dog to be OWNED. So they start with vilifying the pit and the rott. The public that doesn't know any better think that it isn't such a loss that they are restricted or banned. Then it is so easy to add another breed until, like Italy that has nearly 100 breeds on their list. Basically they are killing domestic dogs softly.

Re: BSL Louisville, KY update

well as i said I wanted to make sure I was not being unreasonable about this because of the love i have for the breed,

I did not think I was -

the ONLY good thing about this is catching the owners that are in fact causing all of these maulings and attacks, with truley vicious dogs. So why not respond to complaints? Offer the general public confidential calls to report such activity? Go for the true offenders... not us good owners. THAT I will agree to, but no I will not let them in my house without a warrant -

Anyone ever heard of anyone requiring a warrant? I am not afraid of a fine -but I would like to know the battle I am walking into.
