Thumbs up housing developments ban "vicious" rotties

I'm not sure if others have run into this problem, but I am moving and unfortuantely as a renter, I am subject to landlord rules. For the life of me I cannot find one complex or development that will allow a rottie. They all have breed restrictions for "vicious" breeds, with rottweilers listed. If anyone is in the Orlando area, and knows of place that can see past the stereotypes and allow rotties, please let me know. Thanks.

Not all homes are in HOAs. Look into the older residential parts of the city instead of the new developments. Big difference between whether a landlord wants to limit the presence or kind of pet and whether it is a restriction of an HOA.

A friend of mine has been able to successfully rent houses with dog restrictions by showing that they are good dogs. Fortunately her dogs had recently earned their CDs, one with placements. She was able to show the fancy AKC certificates and ribbons. They also had their CGC's and frankly, she feels that was the real reason that the landlord let her rent with her dogs.

I would try to find a house to rent (rented by a private owner)and explain that you will have renter's insurance with a dog rider. That is how I got the house I am in.

Good Luck!

You might also keep a copy of the CGC (Canine Good Citizen) handy, if your dog has passed, as well as getting a reference from the vet also, if possible.

Good luck. I learned real soon when searching the Tampa area that having a rottweiler was like having a felony when trying to find an apartment.

In my area, the local humane society maintains a list of dog-friendly rentals. That's how my daughter and SIL with 2 great danes found a house to rent .
