Online Poll - Please Vote!

Hi all,

Here's a poll asking about banning Pit Bulls. Please go here (it's to the right) and vote no.

http://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/webapp/sitepages/

Don't be fooled because it's not our dogs. A vote against any breed is a vote against all dogs.

This is too close to home for me - so your attention to this is appreciated! :D

A vote for 'no' is a vote FOR all dogs!

The poll is to the right.

Thanks :)

Wow, this does hit close to home. That could be our dogs up there someday. I voted no and looked at the results... 73.7 voted yes and 26.3 voted no. My family has pits and all of them are very sweet! To ban them would be heartbreaking..

If we are going to get on this we'd better jump now. IT is 73% yes and 29% no. Please cast your vote now. First it will be pits, then its only a matter of time until it is us.

I think it's great to vote against this, but don't panic about it - it's an informal, unscientific poll on a website, which are notoriously inaccurate and unrepresentative, and could not seriously be used as support for any BSL.

Actually, it can - as it solidifies the paper's stance and encourages them to believe that their readership is interested in promoting breed bans. Newspapers go a long way in informing the general public - if they publish more 'BSL' type stories, as their readership are obviously interested in, they will continue to do so.

If their poll comes up with No, then they're encouraged to look at other avenues, such as responsible ownership. ;)

Don't be fooled, newspaper polls are a real way for a paper to canvas their readership as to their interest and the direction of their articles.

On the same note - no, this vote isn't going to ban dogs. Period. But - it could easily be used as a building block for it.

I hear what you're saying Trish, but website polls are not in any way considered scientifically accurate, even in terms of determining what a paper's readership wants (a good example of this is the fact that all these RDN people, who have likely never heard of this Brantford paper, let alone read it on a regular basis, are voting in the poll - it is not an accurate reflection of what the readership wants, since a large number of people voting in the poll do not in any way constitute the paper's readership, they're just anonymous people voting in a website poll). It tells you what people who occasionally visit the website may feel strongly about, but most newspapers' websites are viewed as separate from the newspaper itself in terms of readership. Polls which aren't anonymous are a different matter, but anonymous website polls are more or less meaningless.

Sorry that I can't agree. Yes - it's not scientific at all. Agreed. But ANY supposed 'support', regardless of how mislead it might be, is still support.

The thing that we have to keep our eye on here is the fact that the entire BSL movement isn't based on any scientic fact. If it were, then they could go the the Superior Court ruling that stated that there is no evidence that any breed of dog is more vicious or inclined to attack than another breed. They would then refer to the situation surrounding each attack and come up with the common denominator of irresponsibility.

So while I agree with you on principle, I cannot agree that voting is pointless. :)
