Therapy Rotts in Service

How many members have a Rottie that does therapy work with TDI, Delta Society, etc? Wouldn't it be great to assemble a list of therapy Rotts to send to these fools who want to ban our breed? If they could see the good work that Rotties do, maybe it would make an impact. One of my 2 Rottie girls is an active TDI dog.

I have a friend in Plano, TX with two in Paws Across Texas Therapy Dogs. One of them was an American Rottweiler Club Mirko Award Winner in 1998.

My big girl, Raja is going for her CGC award next month than on to the evaluator. I have been sooo excited about getting into Therapy Work for a long time. Wish us luck!! About sending a list to these "people" who want to ban our beloved breed, I say where do we sign up?

Yes, I wish you good luck on your quest to do therapy work. My dog is 4 1/2 years old and has been doing it for 2 years now. I was scared to death when I started out, but have learned a lot! The dog LOVES to go to the convalescent home where we visit. In fact, we are making one of our routine visits tomorrow. One thing is kinda funny though. When we first started visiting, the staff was scared to death of my Rott. They kept asking me if she would attack them! On the other hand, the residents, who don't hear all the bad Rottie press, weren't really afraid of her at all. They might say "wow, that's a big dog", but never did one say they were afraid because she was a Rottie. Just goes to show, the crazy media is responsible for people being afraid of our dogs.
P.S. Of course everybody there, (including the staff), just loves her now!

For anyone wishing to contact legislators trying to ban rotties, check out any of the recent links on Jan's BSL page and send those people your thoughts. Even if you're not in their area, every voice helps!

Hey Jon&Michelle,
Something I meant to mention in my previous post. If you are going to go to a TDI evaluator, you should let them do your CGC test at the same time. If you want a full TDI registration, you have to let their evaluator do a CGC anyway. Otherwise you get a limited registration, which I think means you have to get a signed release from a facility before you visit it. Just thought I'd let you know.

I am not going with TDI, they dont have evaluators close by in my state. I am going with an independent corp based out of Cali. The lady who is doing the eval. is one of my Vets. She is the representive for them here in NC. Now, when we move back to Florida next year, I then will go with TDI or Delta. Thanks though for asking and giving me the info.

Hopefully you don't mind my asking in this thread, but how can I get in touch with TDI or find out who evaluates dogs for therapy work in my area? I'd heard I had to wait until Milo was a year old, so now that he is, I want to start the process. Thanks!

Info for TDI,

Therapy work is SOOO much fun, and so rewarding! TDI will help you locate an evaluator in your area.

P.S. Please don't call them too much until after the first of the year. They are very busy renewing members right now.

If there are to be any more replies to this topic, please make them on the subject of Breed_specific Legislation. Any further therapy related questions would be better suited to the Training or General Info question.
