666 avoidance - and a question!

sorry, just saw that this topic had a "666" count...and anyone who saw "The Omen" KNOWS that THIS is NOT good.
But to stay on topic, here is my question-

If your local community/state/municipality/etc. proposed breed-specific legislation, what would YOU, yes YOU, personally do? Not just rotties. Any breed. Be honest!

I would -
write and VISIT my representative (I've already done that on other issues)
contribute to anyone/anything who is actively lobbying AGAINST it (also, been there done that)
practice CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE (haven't done that yet, but am prepared to do so!!!!)

If a breed-specific ban was enacted in my community, I'd organize protests, writing campaigns, and do whatever I could to get the ban lifted and better, non-exclusive laws passed. To put is simply, I'd get together as big a group as I could and we'd all raise a big stink until we set things right.

Hopefully, I'd hear about the legislation before it gets enacted so I could get the jump on it. I've organized groups in changing several pieces of legislation and can say from experience that it's easier to wheel-and-deal before the ink dries than to get changes made afterwards.

Nothing is impossible, it's just extremely hard.

I often worry about this. I live in a town that is still operating in the 50s. I'm afraid I wouldn't hear about proposed legislation in time to help out. I've worked on issues in this town before and it takes a tremendous amount of effort to get anyone to even listen, much less change their minds. I check the Breed Specific Legislation site often hoping they would have info if there was anything brewing in the area.

If it came to it, I would do whatever I could, town meetings, petitions, etc. I would be better off if it were on a higher level than the town. Then I would do whatever...and I mean whatever it takes! I figure there are people here that could give me some tips!

I found this website in a "chit chat" post -
it shows some breed specific bans here in the US

http://www.rott-n-chatter.com/rottwe...dspecific.html

very disturbing - it seems that most of the legislation is quietly passed.

I'd also contact all local breed clubs, kennel clubs, obedience clubs, etc. to let them know what's up (whether or not they are related to the breed in question). There are some dog owners who don't even know this kind of thing exists, but if they are told about it they may be willing to help kill it before it is passed.
