As of yet, there are no state laws that ban Rottweilers. You can check here for local laws - http://www.rott-n-chatter.com/rottwe...dspecific.html

There is no such law in Ohio. There might be a stray ordinance in places out in the sticks...but nothing I'm aware of. I know there are some restrictions on ownership of "pitbulls" in certain areas, but even most of those are being challenged.

My breeder is on Ohio and so is her vet who checks them. If they were banned she would of been caught or yelled at because she's been breeding for 10 years.

Rotties are not banned in Ohio (a good thing, since I live in Cincinnati and own two Rotties). Some individual cities may have restrictions on them, but as far as I know there are no state laws in existence (or proposed) that would ban Rotties.

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- PLEASE POST AND CROSS POST

May 17, 2001: SOUTH EUCLID, OHIO PROPOSES PIT BULL BAN

The Mayor of the City of South Euclid Ohio proposed an end to all pit bulls
and similar mixed breeds within city limits at Monday's Council meeting. The
ordinance stems from neighbor complaints and fears about a resident who
failed to confine his dog.

Read the news report at www.sunnews.com. Choose Area News from the left
navigation. Click on Cleveland and Suburb News link, choose Eastern Suburban
Stories, and scroll down to South Euclid.

The ordinance specifically names the Staffordshire bull terrier, American
Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier and Presa Canario. It
further states that these types of dogs and their mixtures have:

".inherent characteristics of aggression, strength, viciousness and
unpredictability not found in other dog breeds, and has resulted in numerous
incidents nationwide involving serious physical harm and/or death to human
beings and/or other animals.

Canine Friends of Cleveland requested the city of South Euclid (pop. 24
thousand) animal bite reports for the last five years. There were no "pit
bulls" on record. There were 22 dog bites and 6 cat bites reported in 2000,
with German Shepherd and Shepherd type mixes noted as the most common
breed(s) for biting. Overall, animal bites have declined each year since
1997 in the city.

The proposed ordinance permits dogs of other breeds that have bitten people
to remain in the city. The language pertaining to pit bulls places gentle
family pets with no bite history at risk for confiscation and destruction by
order of the court.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:

Call, Fax, Write and e-mail the members of the South Euclid City Council and
voice your objections to the proposed Pit Bull Ban.
