HSUS....Tell them what you think! Let the Humane Society of the United States know how you feel about breed banning. If they back it for the Pitbull, the Rottie will be next! http://www.hsus.org/

Done and done. . .I emailed HSUS a few weeks ago, asking where the organization stands on BSL (just to see what their response was). There has been no response so far, so I've emailed them with MY opinion on BSL. I will snail-mail them, too. Audrey

| I emailed the director of media relations and asked him what the HSUS's stand on BSL is and this is the response I received: << Ms. Rutherford: HSUS's historic policy has been against breed-specific bans because we feel that any breed with proper upbringing and socializing is not a clear and present danger. We, however, feel that there are elements within society who train particular breeds, including pit bull breeds, rotweilers, etc., to be aggressive and these individual animals can and do present a clear threat to the general public. I'm forwarding your request on to Martha Armstrong, HSUS Vice President of Companion Animals, who can elaborate on this. >>> <MHRutherford@aol.com> 03/01/00 04:32PM >>> Sir, I am interested in the HSUS's stand on breed specific bans. Could you please direct me to a web site with the press release on this issue. If that is not possible could please email me an official comment from the HSUS concerning this issue. I am not a reporter, or journalist of any sort. I am just a concerned citizen who would like to know if the agency I support with monetary donations is supporting an issue I strongly disagree with. Thank you for your time, Heather M. Rutherford >> I will definitely be sending the HSUS an email with my opinion on BSL. I will also let them know I am terminating my monthly monetary allotment to them. I do not want to give money to an agency that is willing to support BSL. | I'm not only a breeder, I am also a dog groomer, it's just not one certain bred that can be aggressive, it's all breds. I've been a member of the Humane Society for years, and I bred. If you ever love a pet, then you will understand. I have Rottweilers and I have Lhasa Aspo, who I got fixed at 6 mos. She is getting old now,16yrs. What I wouldn't give to have a little Tinkerbell. A breeder has their own reason for breeding. I bred to produce good hips and great personality!!! Which I can't learn enough about breeding! I think breeding should be controlled, by the AKC! That's their territory. The Humane soceity should see to all the strays are being taken care of! HSUS should be involved in aminal curity too ! What about this new thing they are doing to animals cloning?? I've been thinking about getting Tinkerbell cloned! So, see I was one of those who didn't beleive in Breeding until, I lost some of my Furbabies! Axe and Sheba! I have been bitten by cockers and poodles, more than any other Bred! I've learned from experience not to buy a old dog and to teach the young ones how to behave. Animals are so much like humans. The breeding programs should be left up to the AKC thats their department! Becky Brown |

quote in Nani's Mom post: HSUS- We, however, feel that there are elements within society who train particular breeds, including pit bull breeds, rotweilers, etc., to be aggressive and these individual animals can and do present a clear threat to the general public. end quote To me, this just proves that they think they can stop dog-fighting with this ban. They will not stop this practice with this legislation, and they need to be told so!!! I already gave them an earful!!! Get to moving, folks, Rotties will be next!

I'm fairly new to the whole BSL idea, myself, but I'm also a fact hound and I can't seem to find anything "official" from HSUS in regards to their support of BSL. Even in Nani's Mom's post, the letter you quoted doesn't say they DO support BSL, rather that they've historically been against it. If anything, the letter seems more likely to support restrictions on ownership than a ban against the breed itself. Perhaps someone could direct me to an article, press release, etc that might help me come to my own interpretation of their position? I'd really appreciate it.
